well, ISDN cards aren't as cheap as the NE2000 clones, I have to admit
that. But then again, the volume is a lot smaller. I can get a Teles
clone here in Germany for about 140 DM, which is ~$75.

And, with bisdn, the cards _are_ accessed using a dedicated driver.
I can get (depending on the quality of the connection) the maximum
throughput of ~8kB/sec (well, actually ~7.5kB/s with overhead).
