I did (see below).

It is a revision 2.0 card. 8 bit. It has jumpers for IRQ 2,3,4,5,6,7
and IO 200, 240, 300, 340. (I never saw a newer one. Are those 16-bit
cards ?)

It does, indeed.

Ok, I tried it. The good news is, it works. ISDND doesn't give errors,
I can connect to my internet provider via PPP and am currently running
load tests.

The bad news is, it indeed seems to compete with the vga card for the
interrupt. It seems to win, though, most of the time - the console
appears sluggish with lag times up to a second (while telnet
access works just fine).

Another observation I made is that the card seems to put a heavy interrupt
load on the machine. Top gives an interrupt load of around 10% while the
card is under load, with occasional (rare) peaks up to 50 %. This is
a 486/50 (ISA only) System.

Is this a general problem with this card or is the IRQ 2 issue involved
here ?

I do. Although it is not clear if the manual came with that particular
card....

Unfortunately this would kill the system (it is made up from old and
garbage parts, an undocumented multi-io/ide card blocks irqs 3,4 and 7,
an 8-bit Future-Domain TMC845 SCSI controller occupies irq 5. Two small
hard drives (one IDE, one SCSI) contain the system and a little bit free
space.

(no, it's not "my" system, I've set it up for a for a few friend's club,
mostly from donated parts. Yes, I'll probably go looking for better
parts Real Soon Now (TM) :-)

P.S. Should I try to submit a formal 'patch' for the avm driver
     to accept IRQ2 (it's utterly trivial) ?
