Did you see just one error message? "out of sync" error may often
repeat.

What exactly happened? Does the mouse pointer didn't move at all?
Or, it moved erratically (i.e. jumped around on the screen)?
When "out of sync" error occurs repeatedly, the mouse pointer often
jumps around; but it still indicates that the mouse is sending
something to the system and the mouse driver is getting them.
