Have you run your systems with J-grep as a replacement for GNU grep
for a while (making sure nothing breaks)?

There seems to be at least one dependency on GNU grep in
/ports/Mk/bsd.port.mk where the -F argument is used.

How's it compare in speed?  [I'd test it myself, but see my private
email...]
