I found a problem when, in desperation, I recompiled the port. There, it says that the pkg assumes sendmail: I use postfix. There are a couple bad things here. First, and most obvious, there seems to be no way to meaningfully track down this error. I was just mystified and left without a clue. And I don't even have a good reason for why group ownership should be an issue. This smells to high heaven like a problem somebody created because they *thought* it would improve security somehow, without any clear notion of *how* it would improve security. Second, I now find myself in a situation where some software must be installed with pkg and some must be installed from ports. If it's just mailman, that's one thing. If it becomes a bunch of packages, I have a real mess on my hands. I've seen the advice about sticking with default choices in configuring port installations. If you can have any choices you like as long as they're the defaults, then what, really, is the point of having ports? --=20 David Benfell <benfell@parts-unknown.org> See https://parts-unknown.org/node/2 if you don't understand the attachment. --2oS5YaxWCcQjTEyO Content-Type: application/pgp-signature -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: GnuPG v2 iQIcBAEBCgAGBQJUgI8GAAoJEBV64x4SNmArUFQP/3fWnBuQOpLAfYBh/LIfw/+2 RgtGvvnGXzDp9xiqxbPQNRwz+BoK7KUUwxNBrfYIfmaSrnMRD0s+rmlXuGegqTiP JUycw3Rwt6VRMLOYRG7lPrdL3C4xCq5jWNQjuLv/fPFkNjyCWepc67v8ebd99jl/ h5/41C7jDLEajDHxwLzVZWO/3z9oppD2r638gMbeumyeyZpaPTZSFec3LuwdWa7I QKitvNFQys6x/3lm6Vpa0sl4MoZQrfua1Rale4HqXCQtbwWblBBOKvK/fKfwnQDE +ov/wY/NzuKQK+e8WzWpwM4eoy+u0Z9F4p1jWM2if7jM/yQYnKqg0MP0959U5uIY MasAp6xd7IVV6Dd3Q68a2vw9HYHJVAhKN8zygWfJGUCXDMkLuVpSTmbzI2ZhRJDW aILfWQbbN6RK3SAmbWaLm8pg6M0c/dFZYPQd1wLisLqJ8/Uwu6rfVRFgiYeYr6uF vOEmnJ/H8Tdznm0I19Fk8BTpVBrd1rxIjqBzfDAp8AIYfe0lDO1TnUmRiFwdYYmK FpgJBqpzfGIYe7MyAPw/ytPlbtbEIjNrLICjrBclJh4OSaTGHFjQMcZ2VSDqXxob 5OHj9avbUogRnVaI1mHKLSL5TIQrmu8Zb0Fe0gSxhjABgS4PnjPG+iI7AwrnF/oh tDAUOOvzHrTOhgXdbbZO =wJsQ -----END PGP SIGNATURE----- --2oS5YaxWCcQjTEyO--
