In a word : DON'T DO THAT : I recently destroyed a burner after cleaning
it with a special-purpose "drive-cleaning" CD (plastic disc with some
packs of hair near the center).

The burner was a bit old, and was replaced by a speedier Yamaha drive,
but I certainly wish I still had a working, old and slow, Philips
burner.

Hoping your burner is not toasted
