Too late :-) .  I forgot to mention that previous to my installing 8.1 I 
had PCBSD 8.1 installed just to check it out (no likee), and the PCBSD 
installer had no problem configuring X.  Unfortunately, I don't have a 
copy of that xorg.conf.
