I went ahead and upgraded to FreeBSD10/amd64, in fact, I reinstalled
from scratch. This was a mistake. Not only did the upgrade nothing to
fix my problem, but in addition, wireless stopped working. This is
pretty much as described here

except the NIC is iwn instead of ath.
