Marcus, Thanks for your excellent work in porting netatalk. However... I have a problem with Photoshop on the Macs opening files on my FreeBSD box. It's all to do (I think) with CRLF translation. I've researched and see this a problem that should be fixed by commenting '-DCRLF' in the Makefile in etc/afpd. But, in the FreeBSD port, there is no '-DCRLF' in this (or any other) Makefile. I've tried adding -nocrlf to afpd.conf to no effect. This only happens when a Mac is reading the file - when a PC or UNIX box opens the same file (through Samba) there is no problem.
