Occasionally, when the kernel does disk accessing (it seems to be to read in a relatively small ammount of data, e.g. next screenful of text for `more') after a reasonable dormant period, the SCSI bus just locks up. Both the light on the disk drive and on the SCSI card stay on all the time (although an external CDROM drive on the same bus doesn't seem bothered), and the kernel gripes repeatedly to console about aha commands timing out, then eventually gives up the ghost and reboots (about 2 minutes AFAIR). It seems to happen most often when I am reading long news articles (from a innd running on localhost using trn). I've seen it happen whilst printing using lpd running a PS file through ghostscript outputting to a DJ500. It has the encoded ID and LUN of the of the initiator that connected as well as the number of bytes the initiator wants to send. I can't find my copy of the manual.
