I have a WantDat Model 2600 tape drive running off a  Adaptec 2240 SCSI
controler..

It works fine with an older kernel but not with the kernel I have built
but has not worked with newer kernels for a while now.. It seems to have
broke around the time that you moved the PCI buss probe from after the 
ISA Buss to before....
