Let me clarify a few things having browsed the documentation I have to hand ere. - The spec I am familiar with is : working document of the CAM (Common Access Method Committee) draft proposal ATA (AT Attachment) Rev 2.1 June 11, 1990 ... this is obviously not the ATA-2 spec; my apologies for the confusion there. - There's no clear indication in the document as to what the drive's default configuration should be. The spec is pretty cloudy in places 8( Having said that, it still _seems_ that your drive is not behaving per the spec. Rather than quote screeds of it here, look for 'ata-21.doc' (or possibly .zip). I got my copy off gatekeeper.dec.com, you'll probably do better these days asking http://altavista.digital.com/ for it. > P.S. -- A week from Monday, you'll see some comments on the FreeBSD > kernel configuration program in InfoWorld.
