I hate to say it, but screen from the ports section doesn't run anymore. I'm running FreeBSD-current (very current). Compiling went ok so far. Installing the port is only fairly ok, the tic command fails for some reason. Running screen is impossible. Give it a try. I didn't find out, whats causing screen to fail. It doesn't accept input and doesn't show a fullscreen. Duh. 'Cos I didnt actually look at what md5 looked like. Although If I wanted to write a script that nuked all old distfiles, I couldn't use files/md5 right now, as that would kill those ports which do not have md5 files (TeX, LaTeX spring to mind). Any way we could do something similar to my idea that would be compulsory for all ports that could be used to give a definitive list of relevant distfile names? Missing md5's are usually because the tarballs are built on the fly (and the dates and such can screw up the checksum). I don't like the idea of adding yet another file, as most of the information is already there in files/md5. All we need to do is to add a special treatment in files/md5 for "ignorable" checksums or something. I just got it compiled and running. There are some rough edges: 1) xforms is required but xforms installs a library /usr/lib/libforms.a and /usr/lib/libforms.so.0.7 2) I copied forms.h from the xforms/FORMS/ directory into the lyx build directory and added a -I./ to the CPPFLAGS in the Makefile 3) I moved /usr/lib/libforms.so.3.0 libforms.so.3.0.old and libforms.a to libforms.a.old and then installed XFORM. The latter has to be solved for FreeBSD since we have the (alphanumerical) libforms and the libxforms. I wonder why they didn't call it libxforms. > > Sander. > --Chris Christoph P. U. I've got it working. FreeBSD already has a libforms.* that isn't the one that Lyx uses, what Lyx uses FreeBSD installs as libxforms.* I renamed libforms.* to something else, moved libxforms.* to libforms, and it went just fine (with ver 0.8.4, I think). Consequence: My backup was gone, pkg_add had failed and had deleted parts of my tex installation. Trying to build via mount /usr/ports and /usr/ports/distfiles from blues to mozart resulted always in failures when tex/mf wanted to find plain.mf - it prompted, you know that ugly prompt when tex asks for different filename. latex build always ended with an Error 2 , cannot find Makefile. tex built until this plain.mf point where I bailed out and did not know whether the installation was successfull. tex now always tells me it cannot find default format file. Just put "-I/usr/include/X11R6/X11" in CPPFLAGS in the Imakefile and change the "-lforms" into "-lxforms" in the same Imakefile (or is it the Makefile, I don't remember). Only some littel problems, got xtexsh not running, possibly I have the wrong TCL/TK version installed. And the configuration of teTeX doesn't run with freebsd's dialog utility in fullscreen mode (Jordan ?!). But you can use texconfig in batch mode or modify the config files directly. I did already try teTeX (grabbed the binary dist from our local sunsite.informatik.rwth-aachen.de) - the only thing I found making sense to me was texconfig - I started it, failed miserably and threw in the towel on it. In the meantime I have Latex2e and all the tex stuff working again. What I meant when I said 'Linux distributions shine' was that these distributions are especially made for the german tex user. These distributions seem to have (haven't seen one by myself) a graphical (X/tk based?) installation where you can click TeX in a box. Afaik FreeBSD doesn't aim very much at the end TeX-user but such an option in the install menu wouldn't be that bad. > > begin 664 teTeX.port.tar.gz [..] --Chris Christoph P. U. Any clues as to what 'gmp.h' is and where I might find it and why it doesn't exist? Is there a missing BUILD_DEPENDS from this port? Ahh...as I was composing this, my 'find' actually found something...looks like a ssh/work/ssh-1.2.13/gmp-1.3.2 directory is there. Looks like the Makefile in ssh-1.2.13 has some variables called GMPINCDIR (=/usr/include) & GMPLIBDIR (=/usr/lib) that could be adjusted to the subdirectory? or maybe gmp-1.3.2 should be a separate port that is in something_DEPENDS?
