My guess is that you are letting procmail deliver to other folders and reading them at the same time with elm. Look at get_folder_type() in src/newmbox.c. I added return(SPOOL); around line 357 so elm will think everything is a SPOOL file and lock it properly. I see that you have already imported tcl75/tk41. Anyway, I prefer that way. The reason why we are keeping tcl73/tk36 as "tcl" and "tk" is because there are many ports that require them. In other words, it's not only stability, but compatibility, that requires us have the old versions available. Also, since tcl/tk are the only ones that have this problem ((sometimes) incompatible new releases, required by a lot of other ports), I think we should keep importing new ports with version numbers in directories. I * disagreed, but I don't trust myself to make changes in bsd.port.mk (what * a tangle!) so I let it lie. That is correct (that I said that). The reason why I don't see the necessity to add a new variable for this is because we need to put the explicit directory name in pkg/PLIST (no variable substitutions here) anyway. In a nutshell, what I was thinking was: (1) Add "share/doc" to /etc/mtree/BSD.local.dist so that the directory is created by mtree (2) Porters will add a post-install target that will create ${PREFIX}/share/doc/${PKGNAME} and copy doc files in there (3) Also, add "share/doc/${PKGNAME}/${FILES}" in pkg/PLIST (note ${PKGNAME} and ${FILES} should be substituted by the porter) (1) is what Adam suggested (pretty much). Chuck's proposal helps (2) but not (3), and since the porter needs to know the exact directory name anyway, it is even rather confusing (why do they need to learn about another variable when we already have too many? :> ). I'm not sure I understand you. If you are advocating moving the manpages generated by ports stuff (and whatever else I port to my machine) from /usr/local/man, or anywhere else, into the main system manpages at /usr/share/man, then I am strongly against this. Send mail to mime@docserver.cac.washington.edu for more info. --0-1285152922-825627296=:550 Content-Type: TEXT/PLAIN; charset=US-ASCII I have been asked by Abacus Research and Design, Inc., (ARDI), makers of the Executor program, to prepare a segment in their FAQ on how to install and use their program with FreeBSD. Note that I am NOT an ARDI employee nor contractor; I am merely doing this on a volunteer basis, to help both ARDI and FreeBSD (since, IMHO, getting more good-quality apps to work under FreeBSD is a definite "plus" to the FreeBSD community). Since I obviously want to do the best job possible, and not leave any glaring mistakes or ambiguities in the final product, I'd like to ask the FreeBSD community for help in reviewing it. The attached tarfile, "FAQFreeBSD.tar.gz", contains three different versions of the FAQ: one Text, one PostScript, and one Microsoft Word for the Macintosh 5.1a binary file. (If you are already using Executor, this file can be opened directly from MSWord; if you are not, I'm pretty sure you can open it in Word for Windows; just use the file that DOES NOT start with a "%" sign). Please review, make comments, and send back. Probably not a good idea to clog the lists with all your comments; keep it private, to me. If you are wondering "What the @#@#$ is Executor?" let me tell you! It's a REAL NEAT program that emulates a Mac! I love it, because it allows me to do "real work" under FreeBSD where FreeBSD does not have a equivalently good program. I have tried TeX and friends, but still find a GUI word processor like Micorosft Word easier on the brain. When I need powerful spreadsheet stuff, I can now use Excel. I can use PageMaker, Quicken, etc. just fine too. No need to boot into (ugh) DOS any more. I can't wait for WINE or TWIN or etc. to be more stable and to actually work, so this is a GREAT solution for the time being. More information on Executor and ARDI, including such useful documents as the Executor FAQ, are available via WWW at: http://www.ardi.com Fully functional demo versions (only limitation is that they run for only 10-minutes at a time) are available at: ftp://ftp.ardi.com/pub/Executor_Linux ftp://vorlon.mit.edu/pub/ardi/Executor_Linux Probably best to use vorlon, because it's on a faster net connection (ardi, being a small start-up company, can only afford a 28.8 PPP connection at this time...) So I tried out the texconfig prgramm which failed. Later I heard that it requires some env variable to be set to run in an xterm. Meanwhile Thomas did the port and I believe there is no need in further support. Thank you. > > -Bernd > > -- > Bernd Rosauer > br@netland.sub.de > --Chris Christoph P. U. Another good reason to keep it out of bsd.port.mk is that ${DISTNAME} and ${PKGNAME} usually carry a version number, but ${DOCDIR} could be something else entirely (for instance without the version number, or simply ${PREFIX}/share/doc). Actually, if there is to be a ${DOCDIR} then perhaps the most sensible default would be ${PREFIX}/share/doc, and recommend in the guidelines to change it to something more appropriate if necessary. -- Adam David From owner-freebsd-ports Fri Mar 1 12:59:53 1996 Return-Path: owner-ports Received: (from root@localhost) by freefall.freebsd.org (8.7.3/8.7.3) id MAA08884 for ports-outgoing; Fri, 1 Mar 1996 12:59:53 -0800 (PST) Received: from news1.gtn.com (news1.gtn.com [192.109.159.3]) by freefall.freebsd.org (8.7.3/8.7.3) with ESMTP id MAA08879 for ; Fri, 1 Mar 1996 12:59:49 -0800 (PST) Received: (from uucp@localhost) by news1.gtn.com (8.7.2/8.7.2) id VAA29305; Fri, 1 Mar 1996 21:45:20 +0100 (MET) Received: (from andreas@localhost) by knobel.gun.de (8.7.4/8.7.3) id VAA20450; Fri, 1 Mar 1996 21:45:35 +0100 (MET) From: Andreas Klemm Message-Id: <199603012045.VAA20450@knobel.gun.de> Subject: update of harvest port (www/harvest) To: asami@cs.berkeley.edu (Satoshi Asami) Date: Fri, 1 Mar 1996 21:45:35 +0100 (MET) Cc: ports@freebsd.org X-Mailer: ELM [version 2.4 PL24 ME8b] MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset=US-ASCII Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit Sender: owner-ports@freebsd.org Precedence: bulk Hi Satoshi ! If you guys are going to do this, and not document it by making changes that porters would find in bsd.port.mk, then I think you are going to have to put this into the handbook. Just to make sure I understood everything right, this is NOT for ports man pages, this is for the extra things most ports have lying around, like READMEs and various freeform docs. The question is as the subject allows you to guess - is there a port of the listprocessor available for FreeBSD? I looked around for it, didn't find it and crabbed a tar ball... which I could't get to compile yet. So, is there already a port of the list processor? Or will I have to make the tar ball compile?
