Things are not in as good of shape as with the SNAP alone :-) I'm new to this list and am not sure which problems are known and which are not, so if you'll bear with me a moment I'll list some. The biggest change I notice is that networking is broken. I have a 3C509 installed (I have a 3C595 also , but let's play with the older driver first) and the probe is successful. The 509 uses ep0, so I removed ie0 et. al. so there wouldn't be other probe events btw. After the probe, the ifconfig fails saying "ep0: no such device" or something similar. Syslogd will not start, and its hard to get an exact record of something scrolling up the screen. Ifconfig also has the same problem with the loopback device. This is not restricted to the 3C509. Is this something I screwed up, or is this a real problem? This was my first attempt at using sup and the SMP code, and I'd like some sense of where to look. Another, more cosmetic comment: perhaps the idle processes shouldn't be included in the load-average calculations. I saw the load average at 3 and went looking for the culpret. Everything was asleep, except for ps and the idle processes. Jon --------------------------------------------------------------- Jon Doran CTA Simulation Systems, LLC 7315 E. About 50% of the time the SIGFPE message gets to the system console, after which the system wedges tight. Is this a known problem? p.s. who do I tickle about getting the SMP mail archive added to the FreeBSD search page? Also, are there any design docs kicking around that describe the innards of this kernel? -- Steve Passe | powered by smp@csn.net | FreeBSD From owner-freebsd-smp Fri Aug 9 13:24:28 1996 Return-Path: owner-smp Received: (from root@localhost) by freefall.freebsd.org (8.7.5/8.7.3) id NAA01745 for smp-outgoing; Fri, 9 Aug 1996 13:24:28 -0700 (PDT) Received: from who.cdrom.com (who.cdrom.com [204.216.27.3]) by freefall.freebsd.org (8.7.5/8.7.3) with ESMTP id NAA01694 for ; Fri, 9 Aug 1996 13:24:17 -0700 (PDT) Received: from ctasim.com (ctasim.com [206.6.123.1]) by who.cdrom.com (8.7.5/8.6.11) with SMTP id MAA00992 for ; Fri, 9 Aug 1996 12:41:00 -0700 (PDT) Received: by deepthought.ctasim.com (940816.SGI.8.6.9/920502.SGI.AUTO) for freebsd-smp@freebsd.org id NAA03559; Fri, 9 Aug 1996 13:34:25 -0600 From: jon@ctasim.com ("Jon Doran" ) Message-Id: <9608091334.ZM3557@deepthought.ctasim.com> Date: Fri, 9 Aug 1996 13:34:22 -0600 X-Mailer: Z-Mail (3.2.0 26oct94 MediaMail) To: freebsd-smp@freebsd.org Subject: MIB problems on current sup Mime-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii Sender: owner-smp@freebsd.org X-Loop: FreeBSD.org Precedence: bulk I'm having a problem with networking on the current sup, well current as of a few days ago. Ifconfig cannot configure any interfaces, including loopback, and there things stand. Things work fine on 2.2-960801-SNAP, so the problem is more recent. I swapped the driver from SNAP in, but it didn't change anything. Digging into the problem more it appears that the data coming back from sysctl is bad. If I type "ifconfig -a", all the interfaces have null names. I modified ifconfig to print out the data, and nothing seems to make any sense, the call does succeed however. If this problem is being worked, great. If not, I'll spend some time on it. I'm not sure who to coordinate with, so a few procedural pointers may be necessary. But I have time and equipment.
