Mime-Version: 1.0 (generated by tm-edit 7.106) Content-Type: text/plain; charset=US-ASCII Sender: owner-announce@freebsd.org X-Loop: FreeBSD.org Precedence: bulk This message gives you an overview about recent changes in the availability of CTM mirror sites. 1st) The following ftp sites carry a mirror of the CTM repository and are updated by email in addition: - ftp://ftp.freebsd.org/pub/FreeBSD/CTM administrator: Jordan K. Hubbard (jkh@freebsd.org) - ftp://ftp.uni-trier.de/pub/unix/systems/BSD/FreeBSD/CTM administrator: Sascha Blank (blank@fox.uni-trier.de) - ftp://cvsup.nl.freebsd.org/pub/FreeBSD/CTM >>new<< administrator: Mark Huizer (xaa@stack.nl) - ftp://jp.freebsd.org/pub/FreeBSD/CTM >>new<< administrator: Hidetoshi Shimokawa (simokawa@sat.t.u-tokyo.ac.jp) - ftp://ftp.dataplex.net >>no longer available<< In order to avoid overloading and to ensure the reliability of the CTM distribution facility in the long term Richard no longer provides anonymous ftp access to the CTM repository on his master site. He asks everyone to use the mirror sites instead. 2nd) Other CTM mirror sites Besides these four mirror sites there are about a dozen more anon-ftp mirror sites which carry CTM repositories. As these sites are updated by mirroring other sites, there are be delays of usually 24 to 48 hours before the latest deltas show up on these sites. In order to find one of these sites use the ftpsearch engine on http://ftpsearch.unit.no/ftpsearch. 3rd) CVSup based on CTM The trier site offers a CVSup service which is based on a CTM updated cvs-src repository. This allows users which use CVSup to follow cvs-src to fall back on a CTM synchronized cvs-src repository that can be updated again using CTM. 4th) An important note Even though you may have gotten another impression from this message the primary distribution method for CTM deltas was and still is the distribution by email. We use ftp servers to ensure that users can easily download previous deltas as well as base deltas. In addition we want to reduce the risk of losing deltas because of network problems by using different distribution paths. Therefore we encourage every user who wants to use CTM on a regular basis to have the deltas delivered by email instead by pulling them from a ftp site. The FreeBSD handbook explains how to subscribe to which CTM lists. 5th) Persons to contact: If you have a question about a specific CTM mirror site, please contact the administrator of that site as given in the table above. If you plan to set up a new CTM mirror site and/or want to know how to do that please contact the CTM mirror coordinator Sascha Blank (blank@fox.uni-trier.de). In case of technical questions about the CTM production itself please contact the CTM-meister Richard Wackerbarth (rkw@dataplex.net) Richard Wackerbarth Sascha Blank (rkw@dataplex.net) (blank@fox.uni-trier.de) CTM-meister CTM-submeister
