If you add/remove getty lines, you suppose to send HUP to init to handle updates, if you change non-getty lines, it is very rare case. It not worth sending HUP to _all_ processes as done previously. Such connetions will be killed by TERM in any case. Init watch only getty lines and _not_ watch pty lines, it is why /etc/ttys used instead of init internal list. I think if you restore previous HUP reaction in ppp and use ppp in /etc/ttys like getty, it will got HUP (from revoke) and the trouble will be up again. -- Andrey A. Well, people should only put "ppp -direct" in /etc/ttys, but I guess the HUP isn't necessary (and will cause problems w/ old versions of init). I'll leave things as they are :-) > -- > Andrey A.
