SRM is suprisingly cool, for firmware. online man pages, pipes, grep, etc. Looks a lot like Unix) ability to have more than 8 partitions per disk support for all the builtin hardware (last time I looked, NetBSD doesn't support PCMCIA, floppy, sound) support for ILP32 as well as LP64, to make it easier to port apps that don't need 64 bits. Since NetBSD only seems to support the SRM console, we will not be able to use it, and will be stuck with linux for now. Is there any rough time frame for a sortof working version? Ideally, we would like our cluster to be running FreeBSD at Supercomputing 97. :) Chris Csanady From owner-freebsd-alpha Fri Aug 8 05:18:35 1997 Return-Path: Received: (from root@localhost) by hub.freebsd.org (8.8.5/8.8.5) id FAA10589 for alpha-outgoing; Fri, 8 Aug 1997 05:18:35 -0700 (PDT) Received: from darwin.topend.com.au (root@darwin.topend.com.au [203.23.242.1]) by hub.freebsd.org (8.8.5/8.8.5) with SMTP id FAA10582 for ; Fri, 8 Aug 1997 05:18:32 -0700 (PDT) Received: (from freebsd@localhost) by darwin.topend.com.au (8.6.12/8.6.12) id VAA07599 for freebsd-alpha@freebsd.org; Fri, 8 Aug 1997 21:40:24 +0930 From: FreeBSD Mailing List Account Message-Id: <199708081210.VAA07599@darwin.topend.com.au> Subject: Hardware Being Used?
