I have to go through a proxy server, however, it ended up being ftp://ftp.freebsd.org/pub/FreeBSD/2.2.1-RELEASES that was sent to the program (it was actually ftp://192.168.0.1/pub/FreeBSD/2.2.1-RELEASES, with a username of anonymous@ftp.freebsd.com). I didn't know that you have to leave out the version's directory, and just to point to the FreeBSD directory. Thought you should know. In other words, using /pub/FreeBSD worked whereas /pub/FreeBSD/2.2.1-RELEASES didn't, although I thought it required it, but anyways....I'm a dufus. Of course I could well be mistaken, it's happened before. Should the reference in the 4th line below to "tempfile()" actually be "tempnam()"? RETURN VALUES The tmpfile() function returns a pointer to an open file stream on suc- cess, and a NULL pointer on error. The tmpnam() and tempfile() functions return a pointer to a file name on success, and a NULL pointer on error. thanks, +-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+ Alexander Stuy Senior Programmer/Analyst 221 Conradi Bldg Dept. of Biological Science Florida State University Tallahassee, Fl. 32306-2043 (904)644-1006 astuy@bio.fsu.edu http://bio.fsu.edu/htmls/alex.html +-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+ From owner-freebsd-doc Tue Apr 22 13:51:34 1997 Return-Path: Received: (from root@localhost) by hub.freebsd.org (8.8.5/8.8.5) id NAA03378 for doc-outgoing; Tue, 22 Apr 1997 13:51:34 -0700 (PDT) Received: from verdi.jlc.net (root@verdi.jlc.net [199.201.159.1]) by hub.freebsd.org (8.8.5/8.8.5) with ESMTP id NAA03370 for ; Tue, 22 Apr 1997 13:51:28 -0700 (PDT) Received: (from josh@localhost) by verdi.jlc.net (8.8.3/8.6.9) id QAA21535; Tue, 22 Apr 1997 16:53:28 -0400 (EDT) Message-ID: <19970422165327.19880@verdi.jlc.net> Date: Tue, 22 Apr 1997 16:53:27 -0400 From: "Joshua M. During the past year, my company has placed over 100 webpages into the Top Ten -- the front page -- of the major search engines... and, for a small fee, I am willing to show you exactly how we did it. My name is Stephen Mahaney. I am the president of Planet Ocean Communications. My web marketing company has literally "written the book" on how to position your website on the front page -- the Top Ten -- of each of the major search engines... guaranteed! Our 45 page book identifies every trick & technique that is being used on the Internet to gain an almost "unfair" advantage in landing websites at the top of the search engine lists -- right where you need to be so that potential customers who are seeking your services or products can find you. Our monthly Newsletter keeps you abreast of the latest techniques and frequent changes that take place in the dynamic world of "search engine" science. However, understanding the process does not require a degree in "rocket" science -- nor do you need to be "technically oriented". Whether your website is a "do-it-yourself" project or you are paying someone to maintain your site, you (or your webmaster) need to know the tricks in this book in order to compete with the professionals who are dominating the front pages of the various search categories. To learn more about how you can obtain this essential information and receive a free subscription to our Newsletter -- SEARCH ENGINE SECRETS UPDATE, go to.... http://www.profitmaster.com/se-win/ You'll be glad you did. I'm new to FreeBSD. I've had some Linux experience. I'd be interested in working on FreeBSD documentation. One of the things I have going for me at the moment is my unfamiliarity with FreeBSD. I'm making the wild assumption that things that are confusing to me might also be confusing to others. Because I am a newbie myself, I believe it will be easier for me to identify areas of potential confusion for other newbies. When I got acquainted with Linux, I kept my own separate set of notes to fill in the holes. Rather than do that with FreeBSD, I'd rather work to plug any holes that might exist. I have some initial thoughts, how does one begin?
