Our exabyte drives won't accept cheap cleaning tapes (BTW, I have found the exabyte 18c to be a good cleaning tape). I was experiencing a similar error a few weeks ago, and the solution as simply to give the drive a good cleaning (three runs with the exabyte 18c).
