To follow up on my own post: Both the server and the listeners are running. It survived the installation of the Oracle designer repository from a Win95 machine, while a make buildworld was running :-) NOOT: The kernel did *not* have the Linux thread commits by Julian Elischer. That is going to be tested next. Two issues remain: 1. An Oracle installation script had to be patched. Soren is/was looking at it. 2. The Linux_lib and Linux_devel ports cannot be used out of the box (I currently have Redhat packages installed). This should not be too hard to solve. The following PRs apply to running Oracle: 9082: see quoted text 9154: unimplemented syscall in linux emulator If the PRs can be looked at and the patches committed, I'll test Julians code and post a short HOWTO to the list... marcel To Unsubscribe: send mail to majordomo@FreeBSD.org with "unsubscribe freebsd-database" in the body of the message From owner-freebsd-database Mon Dec 21 02:59:21 1998 Return-Path: Received: (from majordom@localhost) by hub.freebsd.org (8.8.8/8.8.8) id CAA07166 for freebsd-database-outgoing; Mon, 21 Dec 1998 02:59:21 -0800 (PST) (envelope-from owner-freebsd-database@FreeBSD.ORG) Received: from freebsd.dk (sos.freebsd.dk [212.242.42.180]) by hub.freebsd.org (8.8.8/8.8.8) with ESMTP id CAA07161 for ; Mon, 21 Dec 1998 02:59:19 -0800 (PST) (envelope-from sos@freebsd.dk) Received: (from sos@localhost) by freebsd.dk (8.9.1/8.9.1) id LAA04570; Mon, 21 Dec 1998 11:59:04 +0100 (CET) (envelope-from sos) From: Søren Schmidt Message-Id: <199812211059.LAA04570@freebsd.dk> Subject: Re: Oracle on FreeBSD In-Reply-To: <367E276B.3B4D73F8@scc.nl> from Marcel Moolenaar at "Dec 21, 1998 11:48:11 am" To: marcel@scc.nl (Marcel Moolenaar) Date: Mon, 21 Dec 1998 11:59:03 +0100 (CET) Cc: freebsd-database@FreeBSD.ORG X-Mailer: ELM [version 2.4ME+ PL43 (25)] MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset=ISO-8859-1 Content-Transfer-Encoding: 8bit Sender: owner-freebsd-database@FreeBSD.ORG Precedence: bulk It seems Marcel Moolenaar wrote: > Both the server and the listeners are running. I wasted Sunday on this sucker (and to think I could have cleaned the bathroom instead...). Their target with this build is clearly RedHat 5.2. We're not there yet in terms of environment support. To play with it you will need: - a working /compat/linux/bin/rpm - libraries from RedHat 5.2, installed using rpm - /compat/linux/bin/sh, installed using rpm - /compat/linux/bin/ksh, installed using rpm and that's as far as I've gotten. We may also have problems with its shared-memory requirements. The documentation for this beast is pretty good; the installation worksheets and general degree of assurance and handholding is fairly confidence-inspiring, as is the fact that no matter how irritating, they've actually taken the packaging requirements of the platform seriously. - -- \\ Sometimes you're ahead, \\ Mike Smith \\ sometimes you're behind. \\ mike@smith.net.au \\ The race is long, and in the \\ msmith@freebsd.org \\ end it's only with yourself. \\ msmith@cdrom.com ------- End of Blind-Carbon-Copy To Unsubscribe: send mail to majordomo@FreeBSD.org with "unsubscribe freebsd-database" in the body of the message From owner-freebsd-database Mon Dec 21 11:40:48 1998 Return-Path: Received: (from majordom@localhost) by hub.freebsd.org (8.8.8/8.8.8) id LAA11423 for freebsd-database-outgoing; Mon, 21 Dec 1998 11:40:48 -0800 (PST) (envelope-from owner-freebsd-database@FreeBSD.ORG) Received: from gaia.euronet.nl (gaia.euronet.nl [194.134.0.10]) by hub.freebsd.org (8.8.8/8.8.8) with ESMTP id LAA11415 for ; Mon, 21 Dec 1998 11:40:45 -0800 (PST) (envelope-from marcel@scc.nl) Received: from scones.sup.scc.nl (i239.ztm.euronet.nl [194.134.67.40]) by gaia.euronet.nl (8.8.8/8.8.8) with ESMTP id UAA26321; Mon, 21 Dec 1998 20:40:37 +0100 (MET) Received: from scc.nl (scones.sup.scc.nl [192.168.2.4]) by scones.sup.scc.nl (8.9.1/8.9.1) with ESMTP id UAA92227; Mon, 21 Dec 1998 20:40:02 +0100 (CET) (envelope-from marcel@scc.nl) Message-ID: <367EA411.50632B0F@scc.nl> Date: Mon, 21 Dec 1998 20:40:01 +0100 From: Marcel Moolenaar Organization: SCC vof X-Mailer: Mozilla 4.5 [en] (X11; I; FreeBSD 3.0-CURRENT i386) X-Accept-Language: en MIME-Version: 1.0 To: =?iso-8859-1?Q?S=F8ren?= Schmidt CC: freebsd-database@FreeBSD.ORG Subject: Re: Oracle on FreeBSD References: <199812211304.OAA04930@freebsd.dk> Content-Type: text/plain; charset=iso-8859-1 Content-Transfer-Encoding: 8bit Sender: owner-freebsd-database@FreeBSD.ORG Precedence: bulk "Søren Schmidt" wrote: > > It seems Marcel Moolenaar wrote: > > > > I don't know. Did your patches ever get committed? Did they get accidentally spammed? Are you running with the linuxthreads compatibility on or off? AFAIK the code does affect signal delivery, so it may be based on old code prior to your fixes... Did they get accidentally spammed? Yes and no. I see there were some changes to the native SIGIO handling that probably broke it.
