Interesting, Netscape under FreeBSD just does not like the Mylex website. I eventually found a link to the 958. We have all 948s now, and they've been very well-behaved, I'm assuming I can expect the same with the 958? I'll be using this in combination with the CMD CRD-5440... Will CAM be back-ported to -stable, or is it just best to wait for 3.0? What are some of the advantages I'd see with this particular card? I have been seeing the same symptoms with an S3V system for a long time (6+ months); by varying the options to the S3 server and the system PCI timings I can alter the 'ease of freeze', but it's always possible. Swapping console <-> X and popping up a twm menu will both do it. Based on what you describe, I can recommed ZyXel's P128 2B+D router/gateway product. Low cost, reliable in operation. A few problems (audio path distortion) but for the price damn good value. Have been running one here for a while (10 months?). Has only a single UTp port, but a cheap $60 UTP 4-port hub should solve that... Was also looking at the Linksys EtherFast LNE100TX, which was supported at one point, but they use different chipsets on different age cards; on their web site they say "here is how to tell which chipset your card has" and that it depends on how old they are, but they don't say if the DEC chipset ones are the old ones or new ones. Unfortunately, I'm guessing old. Maybe I'll just have to get a Kingston KNE100TX, assuming they haven't messed that one up too. When implemented properly on Intel hardware, you should be able to run nearly any PC-based operating system on CompactPCI as though it were a standard PC. We've run FreeBSD on Ziatech hardware (uniprocessor only) and have enjoyed a very good relationship with them for some time. Ziatech is also the original innovator of of CompactPCI. They might be willing to arrange for compatibility testing for FreeBSD. I'll ask. I'm so used to just disabling power managment that I didn't look at any of the other options. Works like a champ. Sender: owner-freebsd-hardware@FreeBSD.ORG Precedence: bulk X-Loop: FreeBSD.org Does anyone know if I can use this model UPS under FreeBSD? It has software for Linux, SCO, and Solaris/i386, but none of it works under emulation (I tried; trust me). Does anyone know if the communication protocol for this unit is publically available or has been reverse engineered, if so I might take a crack at writing a driver or modifying one of the existing ones (bkpupsd or upsd) to work with this unit. Any assistance greatly appreciated. Thanks! --- Donald Burr *NEW EMAIL ADDRESS!* | PGP: Your WWW HomePage: http://DonaldBurr.base.org/ ICQ#16997506 | right to Address: P.O.
