The PAO stuff for FreeBSD 2.2.6 detects and configures the card. You can select the 2.4 GHz mode either through the /etc/pccard.conf file or by #defining something when you compile the kernel. This _almost_ works, but not quite. The card is detected and it does receive packets from other stations, as evidenced by monitoring the interface with tcpdump. However, it doesn't transmit correctly. By enabling some of the debug flags in the driver, it appears that packet transmission fails: the card seems to return status code indicating that a collision has occured. The 'transmit' light on the antenna unit never seems to blink. I fiddled with it for a while, but without the tech manuals for this unit, I'm not sure what to do with it. We tried several times to force the NWID value but that doesn't seem to help. -Bill To Unsubscribe: send mail to majordomo@FreeBSD.org with "unsubscribe freebsd-mobile" in the body of the message From owner-freebsd-mobile Fri Aug 14 18:40:29 1998 Return-Path: Received: (from majordom@localhost) by hub.freebsd.org (8.8.8/8.8.8) id SAA01655 for freebsd-mobile-outgoing; Fri, 14 Aug 1998 18:40:29 -0700 (PDT) (envelope-from owner-freebsd-mobile@FreeBSD.ORG) Received: from lily.ezo.net (lily.ezo.net [206.102.130.13]) by hub.freebsd.org (8.8.8/8.8.8) with ESMTP id SAA01640 for ; Fri, 14 Aug 1998 18:40:25 -0700 (PDT) (envelope-from jflowers@ezo.net) Received: from violet.ezo.net (p142.ezo.net [206.102.130.74]) by lily.ezo.net (8.8.7/8.8.7) with SMTP id VAA28773; Fri, 14 Aug 1998 21:37:58 -0400 (EDT) From: "Jim Flowers" To: "Javier Gomez-Castellanos" , "Bill Trost" Cc: "Javier Gomez-Castellanos" , Subject: Re: PCMCIA waveLAN driver. They don't actually have the NT drivers for the 802.11 yet but I managed the install for WIN95. Before the PCCard install both required "introducing" the PCCard to the OS which required a seperate driver install before the actual WaveLAN driver could be installed. Could it be that the FreeBSD strategy is the same and that you have to get the socket recognized before the WaveLAN driver can see the PC Card? -----Original Message----- From: Javier Gomez-Castellanos To: Bill Trost Cc: Javier Gomez-Castellanos ; mobile@FreeBSD.ORG Date: Friday, August 14, 1998 12:38 PM Subject: Re: PCMCIA waveLAN driver. > >Thanks Bill an Jim for your comments. > >I actually installed the 2.4 GHz ISA card and works well, the problem is >when i tried to make the 2.4 GHz "PCMCIA" card work. Basically came up with the modem controller not initializing and had to add three lines of code to get it to initialize properly. Not very proud of them as I don't understand why they are necessary but it worked for me and the best I could do with zero documentation. You're welcome to them. -----Original Message----- From: Bill Paul To: Bill Trost Cc: javierg@comet.columbia.edu ; freebsd-mobile@FreeBSD.ORG Date: Friday, August 14, 1998 7:11 PM Subject: Re: PCMCIA waveLAN driver. > >> Javier Gomez-Castellanos writes: >> I am trying to install a 2.4 GHz PCMCIA waveLAN card on my laptop >> running freeBSD 2.2.6.
