I've rebuilt my kernel with bktr0. At first I couldn't get the radio program, or fxtv to work. I then found that fxtv would work with an input from the video port, but not from cable. At Amancio's suggestion (thanks BTW), I added options OVERRIDE_TUNER=9 to my config file and rebuilt the kernel. I now can see cable images, but get no sound. Any ideas? Thanks in advance, -Justin Seger- BTW-I can get sound when using the video port and the audio input port. But I didnt dump to much > time into getting it to run. But I think it's cause its for 2.2.5(6). Works great for me on -current... The only problem I had is that it is linked against libjpeg.so.7.0, and the one in ports was just recently updated to 8, so I had to hunt down an old lib :-/ So far the only actual bug I have seen is the "PLAY" button doesn't work for anims, but the REAME BETA on their website states that this is a known bug. For those who have _not_ tried it, let me say that this is an AMAZINGLY powerful package... I can't believe they're giving this thing away for free :-) The documentation is almost nonexistent (at present), and the interface sets new standards for non-intuitive-ness, but once you start to get the hang of the logic that ties it all together, it's actually pretty easy to use. Anybody who is into serious modeling/ rendering/animation tools should _really_ check this one out... No new features, only _huge_ internal changes. Even more will come... 0.5.0 May 3 1998 - A first version of the Sunny Architecture is here. Note that Moonlight doesn't use it yet! This is only the first step towards this new architecture. The 3D kernel will use this new architecture step by step, in future releases. (this is really a long work...) - The whole compilation process has been revised. Moonlight executable is now broken in shared libraries. Plug-ins and modules are shared libraries. Source structure has been updated too. - libtool is now used for compiling, linking and installing libraries and plug-ins. - Internal changes: OString becomes MLString, MLFileEntry should be used instead of ListFiles, MLDArray (template) replaces DArray (define). New classes: MLSocket*, MLHashTable, MLEnumeration, MLDynamicLibrary. (BTW, MLDynamicLibrary should be updated for HP-UX targets). - You need to install GLTT on your system now. GLTT is no more included into Moonlight source distribution. - About scripting languages: a Tcl plug-in is written. Not used for now. - 3 freeware true type fonts are now included and installed. http://www.cybersociety.com/moonlight/ Have fun! I'd appreciate any help in resolving this. Yes it seems wierd, but it's not unusual (a lot of cards have this problem). Put: options "BKTR_REVERSEMUTE" in your kernel config. file, and you should be running happily. The radio applet uses the tuners mute function, fxtv select the mute input on the mux of the card. For some reason Hauppauge have the mux assignments of mute and tuner-in reversed on some of their cards. Let me know if you get my radio applet running (and especially if you don't). So far it has only been tested on PAL systems. Hyg' Flemming -- Flemming Jacobsen It'll probably say something like "Does not compute" or "Inoperative parameters". Will probably release a new update to the driver by the end of the week with improve tuner detection section and the sysctl control variables . I spent an hour or so yesterday goofing with trying to get it to run under -current for me. Like I said I didnt spend alot of time with it. But apparently it does not like running with just "blender" I'm running at 1600x120x16bpp. Running "blender -p 250 200 1024 768" I can get it to start and run kinda. So I don't think it liked my 1600x1200 resolution. When I say it KINDA ran, I mean it starts and runs but and this may be the way it's designed or i'm not reading the right flags or something, but the app itself is not a window. It has no border nothing to click on and move or resize. It's a borderless app. That got REAL annoying when I started an rxvt window and it covered the blender app. I couldn't bring blender to the foreground unless I minimized the windows covering it. Usually I just use the right mouse button to bring the window in front to swap with the window behind. o it would be quite nice if blender could be modified to have a border and title bar that you can use to resize it and click on. Also I noticed when rendering the blacksmith demo that it rendered the bottom third ok then the rest it rendered in pink :) So I don't know what happened there. It was rendered in the default blender settings I didn't change anything. Just some random comments from a casual blender tester. I did not spend hours looking through FAQ's and tutorials. Just thought I would give first run issues I came across. Chris -- "I don't do favors, I accumulate debts" ===================================| Open Systems Networking And Consulting. Intresting tidbit. Under windows it works fine, BUT after some time the font that is used on the desktop, in open windows etc, becomes garbled. It occurs only at 1024x768 (what i normally run) I've wondered if there is some problem with my video card taking the "abuse" of steaming video and its much more unstable in FBSD (linux does the same thing) due to a less "refined" video driver (Xfree) ideas? I'm not against a new video card but i rather get a nice Dual Ppro as an excuse to run the tv card. I know I plan on installing this package at some point. I remember seeing the announcement in one of the .announce groups on usenet and took that time to look through the site and decide that it was promissing for what we're doing. I know I just haven't had the time to look at it (and the machine that it would be put on has been real busy with analyzing fmri data lately), but I'm definitely still interested. Sometimes it just falls down to trying out new things has to take a lower priority to getting the stuff that needs to be done done first. We're finally moving into our low season where I might actually have the time to investigate this program. So please, just because you don't get immediate response don't assume that the interest isn't there. Try rebuilding tix. -- Adrian Wontroba, Stade Computers Limited. phone: (+44) 121 681 6677 Mail info@accu.org for information about the Association of C and C++ Users or see To Unsubscribe: send mail to majordomo@FreeBSD.org with "unsubscribe freebsd-multimedia" in the body of the message From owner-freebsd-multimedia Mon May 4 22:56:03 1998 Return-Path: Received: (from majordom@localhost) by hub.freebsd.org (8.8.8/8.8.8) id WAA00715 for freebsd-multimedia-outgoing; Mon, 4 May 1998 22:56:03 -0700 (PDT) (envelope-from owner-freebsd-multimedia@FreeBSD.ORG) Received: from dkuug.dk (dkuug.dk [193.88.44.89]) by hub.freebsd.org (8.8.8/8.8.8) with SMTP id WAA00644 for ; Mon, 4 May 1998 22:55:57 -0700 (PDT) (envelope-from fj@dkuug.dk) Received: from prefect.unknown.dk (kbh0ppp86.web.dk [195.78.65.86]) by dkuug.dk (8.6.12/8.6.12) with ESMTP id HAA01782; Tue, 5 May 1998 07:55:56 +0200 Received: (from fj@localhost) by prefect.unknown.dk (8.8.8/8.8.7) id HAA00498; Tue, 5 May 1998 07:56:02 +0200 (CEST) (envelope-from fj) From: Flemming Jacobsen Message-Id: <199805050556.HAA00498@prefect.unknown.dk> Subject: Re: Different fxtv probs now... Please try: 1. Apply the 1st attached patch (*TST*.patch) to unmodified Fxtv 0.46 source, build, and then do this: > gdb ./fxtv (gdb) run -synchronous -disableDirectV (gdb) where Play with it, maximize it, move it around, try to core dump it. If you can't, skip the "where" command. If it core dumps though I'd appreciate you mailing the stack printout as well as the program output. 2. If it dumps, try: > gdb ./fxtv (gdb) run -synchronous -disableDirectV -xrm "*Bpp32bit: 4" -xrm "*Bpp24bit: 4" (gdb) where Again, try to core dump it. If this works for you as I suspect it will, here's the "real" fix: 3. Apply 2nd attached patch (*FIX*.patch) to unmodified Fxtv 0.46 source, build, and give the fxtv binary a whirl. This is the same thing minus the printfs and the gratuitous quadrupling of the image buffer size in the *TST*.patch patch. :-) Let me know how it goes. Does this sound right? Look for a big (about i486-sized) chip with "Bt848" written on it. This is the BrookTree Bt848 video capture chip, and is the *only* chipset compatible with the FreeBSD driver. To my knowledge, there are no Bt848 look-alikes or compatibles. Looks to me like these cards won't work for you. Best to avoid them. > Failing this, what is the best place (read cheapest) to order one of > these? I believe you can find these at all the major mail-order houses, including PC Connection, Micro Warehouse, etc. You should also check the mail order places like http://www.necx.com/ and http://www.computerESP.com/, etc. The brands you are looking for (that are compatible with the FreeBSD driver) include Hauppauge WinCast/TV (there is a version both with and without FM radio). The Miro pcTV also works and is well-liked. I found a really cheap (no-name brand) card called "TViewer" at a computer show for $70, and it works beautifully. The ATI All-in-Wonder contains a Bt848 tuner, but it is *NOT* compatible with the Bt848 driver -- this is because the Bt848 is sitting behind the ATI Rage bus, instead of directly on the PCI bus. - --- Donald Burr - Ask me for my PGP key | PGP: Your WWW HomePage: http://DonaldBurr.base.org/ ICQ #1347455 | right to Address: P.O. Yes, a sound card that is properly supported by FreeBSD. Vladimir Silyaev took a stab at adding mad16. I have tried it here, and it works somewhat. I still get missed interrupts on transmit. Contact me privately if you want to trie, otherwise for about $15 you can get a full duplex card that is supported by FreeBSD (I use an opti931 card).
