Actually, freebsd-doc is for discussing documentation related issues (e.g. for the docs team). You wanted freebsd-questions, but I'll field this one anyway. :) > Now I discover that I wish I had selected > "X Developer" originally when asked. I have > been unable to figure out how to accomplish > this, despite hours of trying. Run /stand/sysinstall and then choose Configure -> Distributions -> X You don't want to select the Novice, Express or Custom installs since those are, well, install methods. You've already installed, so now you want to Configure. - Jordan To Unsubscribe: send mail to majordomo@FreeBSD.org with "unsubscribe freebsd-doc" in the body of the message From owner-freebsd-doc Sun Nov 21 9:50: 6 1999 Delivered-To: freebsd-doc@freebsd.org Received: from freefall.freebsd.org (freefall.FreeBSD.ORG [204.216.27.21]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 09E1D14BF8 for ; If you select "Custom" and then "Distributions", you can then select the "X Developer" distribution. I gather this is what you did. After you exit from that menu, you need to select "Commit" to have it actually perform the installation of the new distribution. I'm reluctant to test that advice on my system, but my recollection is that I've done it that way in the past. Also, the "correct" way to do this is to select "Configure" from the main menu, then "Distributions", and then select the X-Developer distribution. When I do that on my system, X isn't a choice (at all). It does seem that there may be a bug there. X also isn't available when I do a "Custom" distribution selection from Install. Also, I have a 3.1 system, so the current state of things may be a little different. -- Bob +-------------------------------------------------------- | Bob Johnson | bobj@cisi.com +-------------------------------------------------------- To Unsubscribe: send mail to majordomo@FreeBSD.org with "unsubscribe freebsd-doc" in the body of the message From owner-freebsd-doc Sun Nov 21 12: 3: 6 1999 Delivered-To: freebsd-doc@freebsd.org Received: by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix, from userid 647) id CCD8114E8D; Sun, 21 Nov 1999 12:03:04 -0800 (PST) To: freebsd-doc@FreeBSD.ORG Subject: webupdate failed on hub.freebsd.org Cc: wosch@FreeBSD.ORG Message-Id: <19991121200304.CCD8114E8D@hub.freebsd.org> Date: Sun, 21 Nov 1999 12:03:04 -0800 (PST) From: wosch@FreeBSD.ORG (Wolfram Schneider) Sender: owner-freebsd-doc@FreeBSD.ORG Precedence: bulk X-Loop: FreeBSD.org [This is an automatically created E-Mail message from the daily webupdate cron job:] ===> handbook (cd ../../../doc/en_US.ISO_8859-1/books/handbook && make FORMATS=html-split DESTDIR=/home/wosch/public_html/data/handbook all) /usr/local/bin/jade -V html-manifest -ioutput.html -c /g/www/buildcvsup/doc/en_US.ISO_8859-1/books/handbook/../../../share/sgml/catalog -c /usr/local/share/sgml/docbook/dsssl/modular/catalog -c /usr/local/share/sgml/docbook/catalog -c /usr/local/share/sgml/jade/catalog -d /g/www/buildcvsup/doc/en_US.ISO_8859-1/books/handbook/../../../share/sgml/freebsd.dsl -t sgml /g/www/buildcvsup/doc/en_US.ISO_8859-1/books/handbook/book.sgml /usr/local/bin/jade:/g/www/buildcvsup/doc/en_US.ISO_8859-1/books/handbook/staff/chapter.sgml:352:8:E: general entity "a.pho" not defined and no default entity *** Error code 1 Stop. *** Error code 1 Stop. *** Error code 1 Stop. make all failed To Unsubscribe: send mail to majordomo@FreeBSD.org with "unsubscribe freebsd-doc" in the body of the message From owner-freebsd-doc Sun Nov 21 18:40:11 1999 Delivered-To: freebsd-doc@freebsd.org Received: from freefall.freebsd.org (freefall.FreeBSD.ORG [204.216.27.21]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id B895414D63 for ; Sun, 21 Nov 1999 18:40:01 -0800 (PST) (envelope-from gnats@FreeBSD.org) Received: (from gnats@localhost) by freefall.freebsd.org (8.9.3/8.9.2) id SAA92352; Sun, 21 Nov 1999 18:40:01 -0800 (PST) (envelope-from gnats@FreeBSD.org) Received: from 24.66.174.118.bc.wave.home.com (24.66.174.118.bc.wave.home.com [24.66.174.118]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 3EB2314F9B for ; Sun, 21 Nov 1999 18:35:23 -0800 (PST) (envelope-from root@24.66.174.118.bc.wave.home.com) Received: by 24.66.174.118.bc.wave.home.com (Postfix, from userid 0) id A0C531F9D; Sun, 21 Nov 1999 18:35:25 -0800 (PST) Message-Id: <19991122023525.A0C531F9D@24.66.174.118.bc.wave.home.com> Date: Sun, 21 Nov 1999 18:35:25 -0800 (PST) From: jburkhol@home.com Reply-To: jburkhol@home.com To: FreeBSD-gnats-submit@freebsd.org X-Send-Pr-Version: 3.2 Subject: docs/15036: update of queue manpage Sender: owner-freebsd-doc@FreeBSD.ORG Precedence: bulk X-Loop: FreeBSD.org >Number: 15036 >Category: docs >Synopsis: update of queue manpage >Confidential: no >Severity: non-critical >Priority: low >Responsible: freebsd-doc >State: open >Quarter: >Keywords: >Date-Required: >Class: change-request >Submitter-Id: current-users >Arrival-Date: Sun Nov 21 18:40:01 PST 1999 >Closed-Date: >Last-Modified: >Originator: Jake Burkholder >Release: FreeBSD 4.0-CURRENT i386 >Organization: none >Environment: 4.0-CURRENT >Description: The queue manpage is seriously out of date; sync with reality. Maybe instead of the subtle little arrow to indicate that there is more to the list, the last entry in the list should be "more..." to indicate that there is more. That would make it more likely to be noticed by those of us who didn't get enough sleep. These represent problem reports covering all versions including experimental development code and obsolete releases. Bugs can be in one of several states: o - open A problem report has been submitted, no sanity checking performed. a - analyzed The report has been examined by a team member and evaluated. f - feedback The problem has been solved, and the originator has been given a patch or a fix has been committed. The PR remains in this state pending a response from the originator. s - suspended The problem is not being worked on. This is a prime candidate for somebody who is looking for a project to do. If the problem cannot be solved at all, it will be closed, rather than suspended. c - closed A problem report is closed when any changes have been integrated, documented, and tested. They are there for typesetting differences. The problem you are running into is probably due to exceeding the mdoc parameter limit. Try: .Op Fl a ar Start .Oo .Fl e Ar end | .Fl Fl s Ar Size .Oc This is off the top of my head, so I might be slightly wrong. You should probably subscribe to the Davenport mailing list (Davenport was the name of the DocBook maintainers project). The list address is docbook@lists.oasis-open.org, www.oasis-open.org should have subscription instructions (probably "echo subscribe | mail docbook-request@lists...) In order to do this, we need to create a set of pages specific to the FreeBSD/AXP port. My page layout skills would get me shot on sight at a web-content convention, so I'm looking for an enthused sub-webmeister to do some writing and layout work. I can arrange for infodump and plenty of raw content material, but the prospective candidate will need to be able to clean it up, format it, and maintain the resulting pages in the face of new information. No specialty knowledge of the FreeBSD/AXP port or any Alpha systems is required, just the ability to write reasonable English and maintain a neat set of static pages. If you think that this is something that you'd like to take on, please let me know.
