Then tried to use so.hints to let the system know where is this shared lib. To test how ldconfig produces the hint file I did: ldconfig -elf -f hintfile /usr/local/lib/OpenJIT This resulted in a hintfile did show the searchdir, but no libOpenJIT.so at all. As I mentioned I tried first with OpenJIT1.1.12 according to the URL, = then went along to 1.1.15 and got the same err all the time. However, I have some production sites, which are running linux jdk 1.2.2 & FreeBSD 3.x-STABLE. Multicasting doesn't seem to work in this case very well, since linux jdk doesn't issue necessary setsockopt(.... SO_REUSEPORT....) to allow multiple applications to bind to same multicast port. What would be my best option to get this working ? 1) compile native jdk1.2.2 beta (and maybe shujit) on 3.x-STABLE 2) as 1 but upgrade to FreeBSD 4.2 3) hack linuxlator so that SO_REUSEADDR -> SO_REUSEADDR + SO_REUSEPORT In long term, I think that option #2 would be a good choice. In short term, if native jdk1.2.2 beta would work OK on 3.x I would probably use that, otherwise I think that I'll hack the kernel. Any opinions anyone ? In terms of the bug, yes, javah is failing to find FreeBSD_i386.properties. However, this or BSD_i386.properties won't be found because (a) its read in at compile time and isn't placed in the installation and (b) the BSD renaming happened after the release of patchset 10. I'd try building the JDK from the port again and see what all is happening with the build of javah. - Greg To Unsubscribe: send mail to majordomo@FreeBSD.org with "unsubscribe freebsd-java" in the body of the message From owner-freebsd-java Thu Dec 14 16:31: 8 2000 From owner-freebsd-java@FreeBSD.ORG Thu Dec 14 16:31:06 2000 Return-Path: Delivered-To: freebsd-java@freebsd.org Received: from heinz.jollem.com (c104187.upc-c.chello.nl [212.187.104.187]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 10D3137B400 for ; Thu, 14 Dec 2000 16:31:06 -0800 (PST) Received: (from ernst@localhost) by heinz.jollem.com (8.11.1/8.9.3) id eBF0UDo44594; Fri, 15 Dec 2000 01:30:13 +0100 (CET) (envelope-from ernst) Date: Fri, 15 Dec 2000 01:30:13 +0100 From: Ernst de Haan To: "Koster, K.J." This has been fixed in JDK1.3, but earlier releases depend on some features of Motif 1.2 that cause 'weird' behavior with newer versions of Motif. This has been fixed in JDK1.3, but earlier releases depend on some > features of Motif 1.2 that cause 'weird' behavior with newer versions of > Motif. Nate has hit the nail on the head of course. However, this doesn't mean that the visual "problems" can't be documented so that people know what to expect. This also means that people with different versions of Motif (OpenMotif, Lesstif, commercial Motif 1.2 implementations) can test against this list and possibly pick up is something is actually a bug rather than an OpenMotif feature. Whats needed is naturally someone to create and maintain such a list and also people prepared to test things with the different Motif versions. Personally, I find that the visual problems aren't really an issue, but YMMV. - Greg To Unsubscribe: send mail to majordomo@FreeBSD.org with "unsubscribe freebsd-java" in the body of the message From owner-freebsd-java Thu Dec 14 21:42:51 2000 From owner-freebsd-java@FreeBSD.ORG Thu Dec 14 21:42:49 2000 Return-Path: Delivered-To: freebsd-java@freebsd.org Received: from cafe.muraoka.info.waseda.ac.jp (cafe.muraoka.info.waseda.ac.jp [133.9.68.49]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 317F037B402 for ; Thu, 14 Dec 2000 21:42:48 -0800 (PST) Received: from muraoka.info.waseda.ac.jp (shudoh@localhost [127.0.0.1]) by cafe.muraoka.info.waseda.ac.jp (8.9.1a/3.7W) with ESMTP id OAA06201; Fri, 15 Dec 2000 14:39:32 +0900 Message-Id: <200012150539.OAA06201@cafe.muraoka.info.waseda.ac.jp> To: "Ari Suutari" Cc: freebsd-java@freebsd.org Subject: Re: Linux jdk & multicast In-reply-to: Your message of "Thu, 14 Dec 2000 12:39:59 +0200." <002e01c065ba$3598c260$0e05a8c0@intranet.syncrontech.com> Date: Fri, 15 Dec 2000 14:39:31 +0900 From: SHUDO Kazuyuki Sender: owner-freebsd-java@FreeBSD.ORG Precedence: bulk X-Loop: FreeBSD.org Ari Suutari wrote: > which are running linux jdk 1.2.2 & FreeBSD 3.x-STABLE. > > Multicasting doesn't seem to work in this case very well, since > linux jdk doesn't issue necessary setsockopt(.... But now other problem occurs: gmake ./libOpenJIT_g.so VARIANT=DBG gmake[1]: Entering directory `/usr/home/kuti/OpenJIT-1.1.15' gcc -g -Wall -Wno-unknown-pragmas -DDEBUG -DJCOV -DHAVE_ALIGNED_DOUBLES -DHAVE_ALIGNED_LONGLONGS -I/usr/local/jdk1.2.2/include-old -I/usr/local/jdk1.2.2/include-old/freebsd -I./CClassHeaders -DARCH=\"X86\" -DJDK_VERSION_STRING=\"1.2.2\" -c -o obj_g/api.o api.c In file included from /usr/local/jdk1.2.2/include-old/oobj.h:25, from OpenJIT.h:56, from api.c:52: /usr/local/jdk1.2.2/include-old/typedefs.h:18: typedefs_md.h: No such file or directory In file included from /usr/local/jdk1.2.2/include-old/oobj.h:29, from OpenJIT.h:56, from api.c:52: /usr/local/jdk1.2.2/include-old/util.h:20: miscdefs_md.h: No such file or directory In file included from /usr/local/jdk1.2.2/include-old/interpreter.h:24, from OpenJIT.h:57, [..cut..] /usr/local/jdk1.2.2/include-old/typecodes.h:15: miscdefs_md.h: No such file or directory In file included from OpenJIT.h:63, from api.c:52: /usr/local/jdk1.2.2/include-old/jmath.h:24: jmath_md.h: No such file or directory gmake[1]: *** [obj_g/api.o] Error 1 gmake[1]: Leaving directory `/usr/home/kuti/OpenJIT-1.1.15' gmake: *** [debug] Error 2 So, header files in include-old refers in some cases to non-existent ones. What I see is that the app fails to repaint properly. It looks like a freeze, but you can unwedge it by using your window manager's icon to resize the window. (4.2-stable, X 3.3.6, plus twm as wm) Leaving out the Window manager entirely gives the same behaviour. Thus, in my application you can start it and get the initial screen. By alternating typing and resizing I can log into my program. (use "guest" as a user name) Menues work by blindly stabbing at where you'd expect the menuitems to be. The app seems fully functional, it just needs manual repaint commands from the user. Perhaps I can document this behaviour and call it a "feature". :) Kees Jan ================================================ You are only young once, but you can stay immature all your life. [ SNIP ] Ahh, I don't have this kind of problem in my App, although we had a problem with Swing either repainting too often or not painting enough (a little of both), so we generated out our 'paint thread' that continually causes repaint to occur at least once/second. Eventually, it dies when it tries to repaint some box on the screen with a NULL pointer. The problem is not in jdk but because I'm using it incorrect! (I achieve the same results on Solaris7 with Solaris VM (build Solaris_JDK_1.2.2_06, native threads, sunwjit) ) Then my question is how one can manipulate images without awt? I need to read an image (gif), print something on it and return it to the browser. The last part is clear, but what library I can use to do the image manipulations (printing text on them, drawing lines , bars, etc.)? All you need to do is specifying an undocumented command line option '-Xbootclasspath/a:' with an appropriate argument. Assuming OpenJIT.jar is /usr/local/jdk1.2.2/jre/lib/OpenJIT.jar below. You can execute Hello program with OpenJIT by typing: JAVA_COMPILER=OpenJIT java -Xbootclasspath/a:/usr/local/jdk1.2.2/jre/lib/OpenJIT.jar Hello CLASSPATH never help to solve the problem, because classes of org.OpenJIT package are needed for JIT initialization and at the time, classes can be loaded only from the bootclasspath. -- Fuyuhiko MARUYAMA Matsuoka laboratory, Department of Mathematical and Computing Sciences, Graduate School of Information Science and Engineering, Tokyo Institute of Technology. Prepend "/compat/linux/usr/bin" to your PATH, then follow the INSTALL instructions. Works like a charm. Unfortunately, however, version 1.1.15 doesn't fix the problem I'm having.
