I have those files in /usr/local/jdk1.2.2/include-old/bsd! It's a pity that I found it out after building again the whole jdk... So, let me summarize what I've had to do for successful building of = OpenJIT with patchset 10: 1. updating /lib/tools.jar with classes/com/sun/tools/javah/resources/FreeBSD_i386.properties file that is in work/src/share 2. copying (or ln?) *.h files in /include-old/bsd to = /include-old/ No changes of any OpenJIT files was needed then. I can't test other JDK's at the moment, because I'm reinstalling FreeBSD at the moment, and I'm having trouble getting XFree86 4.0.2 running :) BTW: I noticed that a linux-jdk1.3 was erected in /usr/ports/java. Way to go! I just wonder if HotSpot should not be disabled. When I run java -version I get: bash-2.04$ /usr/local/linux-jdk1.3.0/bin/java -version java version "1.3.0" Java(TM) 2 Runtime Environment, Standard Edition (build 1.3.0) Java HotSpot(TM) Client VM (build 1.3.0, mixed mode) Java HotSpot(TM) Client VM warning: cannot uninstall alt signal stack Wasn't this a problem due to some incompatibility between Linux and the FreeBSD Linux emulation layer? It is possible to run this using the Linux ABI module on FreeBSD/alpha, both 4.2-STABLE and 5.0-CURRENT. Note that it will not work on 4.2-RELEASE. It is pretty slow, but it works. (and its just as slow under native linux, so its not my fault ;). It might be useful for bootstrapping a native java build. Download it from: http://www.linuxalpha.compaq.com/java122/download.html To run it, you'll need to: - enable linux_enable in /etc/rc.conf (and load linux.ko if you don't want to reboot) - install linux_base-6.1 from ports - Grab the OpenMotif rpm they point you at on the JDK download page. and install it manually using the same rpm args as the linux base port does. After unpacking the jdk, you'll need to edit the java wrapper to point to /compat/linux/bin/sh instead of /bin/sh. _Optionally_, you'll want to install the compaq math libs for linux. If you don't have these installed, the JIT won't work. You can get these from http://www5.compaq.com/math/download/index.html Pick the right one for your CPU (ev4, ev5, ev6, etc) Follow the link and grab libots. Install these using the same rpm args as the linux base port does. You might end up with a 0 length libcpml.so because they've taken to extracting the shared lib from the static lib (saves download b/w, I guess..). In this case, you might try installing the linux_devtools port and using the linux ld to run this on libcpml.a ((I extracted mine on my native linux/alpha test box): /compat/linux/.../ld -shared -o libcpml_ev5.so -soname libcpml.so -whole-archive libcpml_ev5.a -no-whole-archive -lots After doing all this, install the resulting libcpml_ev5.so and run /compat/linux/sbin/ldconfig. (4) There is a java/jdk-doc ports that installs the JDK 1.1.8 docs. Could we have a java/jdk12-doc port too? And perhaps a java/jdk13-doc too. I would love to see those :) Just wonder if they should install the docs under /usr/local/jdk1.2.2/docs/ or under /usr/local/share/doc/jdk1.2/. (5) Does anyone know why I have an empty /usr/local/share/doc/java/ directory? I haven't created it, and I wonder what port did. (6) Finally, I am working on providing a port for the Orion web server. Who should I contact if I would like this port to be added as java/orion and perhaps as www/orion too? Since /usr/local/jdk1.X.X/docs is where we put the 1.1.8 docs, I'd prefer to keep them together. However, all the rest of the docs for the other java ports put them under /usr/local/share/java/XXXX I can see benefits to each. Who should > I contact if I would like this port to be added as java/orion and perhaps > as www/orion too? Is there anyone that would like to help me with this? The best way would be for you to send a Problem Report with it (instructions in the Handbook), and let us know. We'll test it, and commit it. You can put it in both directories with the "CATEGORIES= java www" tag Patrick patrick@freebsd.org To Unsubscribe: send mail to majordomo@FreeBSD.org with "unsubscribe freebsd-java" in the body of the message From owner-freebsd-java Fri Dec 22 10:42:29 2000 From owner-freebsd-java@FreeBSD.ORG Fri Dec 22 10:42:28 2000 Return-Path: Delivered-To: freebsd-java@freebsd.org Received: from heinz.jollem.com (c104187.upc-c.chello.nl [212.187.104.187]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id F2B3E37B400 for ; Fri, 22 Dec 2000 10:42:26 -0800 (PST) Received: (from ernst@localhost) by heinz.jollem.com (8.11.1/8.11.1) id eBMIfWG20792; Fri, 22 Dec 2000 19:41:32 +0100 (CET) (envelope-from ernst) Date: Fri, 22 Dec 2000 19:41:32 +0100 From: Ernst de Haan To: FreeBSD Java mailing list Cc: karl@orionserver.com, magnus@orionserver.com Subject: Port for the Orion Server (J2EE Application Server) Message-ID: <20001222194132.A20749@c187104187.telekabel.chello.nl> Mime-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii Content-Disposition: inline User-Agent: Mutt/1.2.5i Sender: ernst@heinz.jollem.com Sender: owner-freebsd-java@FreeBSD.ORG Precedence: bulk X-Loop: FreeBSD.org Hi all, I more or less finished creating a port for Orion, a J2EE application server. See http://www.orionserver.com/ if interested. Anyway, while creating and testing the port I found out that java/jdk12beta port registers XFree86-3.3.6_6 as a dependency. The result seems to be that my port *also* has that as a dependency. Because my box runs (well, it doesn't run it yet, but it's installed) XFree86 4.0.2, it reports that it can't install the port when I do make package and then try to install that package using pkg_add. The normal make install and make deinstall work perfectly fine though. This problem keeps my port to successfully go through all the stages described at: * http://www.freebsd.org/porters-handbook/porting-testing.html However, I did check the port with portlint, and it's okay with portlint. So, any ideas? Can we modify the JDK 1.2.2 port, should I modify my Makefile, or should we just leave it this way and commit it ? Only I can't find: jsdk20-solaris2-sparc.tar.Z from http://java.sun.com/products/servlet/download.html to copy into /usr/ports/distfiles. I've looked all over java.sun.com, but can't find the tar.Z. Any idea where I can download the file? Thanks in advance.
