It works but it's annoying. When I played with video recording I decided that reason is some frames lose. Bigger clip - bigger gap beetween audio and video. I used some tool (it is in ports I belive) to test home made clips and clips from some CDs. This tool reported inconsistency in frames sequence and variable bandwidth. -- @BABOLO http://links.ru/ To Unsubscribe: send mail to majordomo@FreeBSD.org with "unsubscribe freebsd-multimedia" in the body of the message From owner-freebsd-multimedia Mon Apr 10 1:37:11 2000 Delivered-To: freebsd-multimedia@freebsd.org Received: from fleming.cs.strath.ac.uk (fleming.cs.strath.ac.uk [130.159.196.126]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id A8DF337B76D for ; Mon, 10 Apr 2000 01:37:04 -0700 (PDT) (envelope-from roger@cs.strath.ac.uk) Received: from cs.strath.ac.uk (posh.dmem.strath.ac.uk [130.159.202.3]) by fleming.cs.strath.ac.uk (8.8.8/8.8.8) with ESMTP id JAA05589 Mon, 10 Apr 2000 09:36:49 +0100 (BST) Message-ID: <38F1928D.C9163205@cs.strath.ac.uk> Date: Mon, 10 Apr 2000 09:36:29 +0100 From: Roger Hardiman Organization: University of Strathclyde X-Mailer: Mozilla 4.72 [en] (X11; I; Linux 2.2.12 i386) X-Accept-Language: en MIME-Version: 1.0 To: spock@vcsa.org Cc: multimedia@FreeBSD.ORG Subject: Re: Booktree applications References: <200004092120.QAA16483@smith.vcsa.org> Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit Sender: owner-freebsd-multimedia@FreeBSD.ORG Precedence: bulk X-Loop: FreeBSD.org "Rev. Can anyone tell me the likelyhood of getting this card working? If not, can anyone reccomend a good soundcard with 4.0 support, mainly for audio recording? Thanks muchly. I'm seeing the same thing you are, only worse. When I stream a 'known working' mp3 file, I get the 5 seconds of audio then long pauses, as mentioned before. An even worse problem I have, I can't seem to properly record audio and play it back with my soundcard(s) I have a tv tuner card plugged into the 'line in' on the soundcard, I try to record when /dev/tuner0 is open, which seems to start the audio out the tuner card and into the 'line in'. But it just records trash, crackles and stuff. I've tried all sorts of things, aswell as making sure the playback rate is the same, and mixer recsrc At one stage I was able to get some recognisable audio, which sounded like what was recorded, but at double speed, chipmunks style.. I thought it might have been my old isa SB, but I just tried a new vibra16 and the same problems. I'm running 4.0 with newpcm. In FreeBSD 4.0, the sound code is called "newpcm", and is based on Luigi's "pcm" sound driver in FreeBSD 2.2.x and 3.x So I checked the "pcm" readme on my FreeBSD 3.4 box. ------------------------- CHIPSET: OPTI924: PnP COMMENT: I have this card but it is still unsupported. ------------------------- So, if "pcm" in 2.2.x/3.x does not support the 924, I can see why "newpcm" which inherited all the "pcm" code, does not support it either. However, we may be able to get the card working. Firstly, can you answer these questions 1) is the card a SB clone 2) is the card a WSS (microsoft Windows Sound System) clone 3) on powerup, did you need to run a DOS driver to set the card one mode or the other -or- on power up was the card defaulting to say a Sound Blaster 4) If it is a SoundBlaster clone, is it 8 bit or 16 bit. Be very carefull with this answer. I saw many cards claiming to be "16 bit sound blaster compatible". What they actually were was a clone of the 8 bit sound blaster pro, with an extra proprietry 16 bit mode, which was not the same as a true Sound Blaster 16. (actually the special 16 bit mode usually turns out to be a clone of the WSS card which was always a 16 bit card) Thanks Roger To Unsubscribe: send mail to majordomo@FreeBSD.org with "unsubscribe freebsd-multimedia" in the body of the message From owner-freebsd-multimedia Wed Apr 12 2:34:35 2000 Delivered-To: freebsd-multimedia@freebsd.org Received: from ipt2.iptelecom.net.ua (ipt2.iptelecom.net.ua [212.9.224.2]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 0ABC237BAEB for ; Wed, 12 Apr 2000 02:34:30 -0700 (PDT) (envelope-from sobomax@altavista.net) Received: from vega.vega.com (dialup2-29.iptelecom.net.ua [212.9.226.93]) by ipt2.iptelecom.net.ua (8.9.3/8.9.3) with ESMTP id MAA15910 for ; Wed, 12 Apr 2000 12:40:09 +0300 (EEST) Received: from altavista.net (big_brother.vega.com [192.168.1.1]) by vega.vega.com (8.9.3/8.9.3) with ESMTP id MAA23360 for ; Wed, 12 Apr 2000 12:33:45 +0300 (EEST) (envelope-from sobomax@altavista.net) Message-ID: <38F442ED.838DE804@altavista.net> Date: Wed, 12 Apr 2000 12:33:33 +0300 From: Maxim Sobolev Organization: Vega International Capital X-Mailer: Mozilla 4.72 [en] (WinNT; U) X-Accept-Language: uk,ru,en MIME-Version: 1.0 To: multimedia@freebsd.org Subject: OPL3-SA and suspend/resume Content-Type: text/plain; charset=koi8-r Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit Sender: owner-freebsd-multimedia@FreeBSD.ORG Precedence: bulk X-Loop: FreeBSD.org Hi, Is there is any plans for adding back workarround necessary to make OPL3-SA card to work properly after suspend/resume? -Maxim To Unsubscribe: send mail to majordomo@FreeBSD.org with "unsubscribe freebsd-multimedia" in the body of the message From owner-freebsd-multimedia Wed Apr 12 7: 9: 4 2000 Delivered-To: freebsd-multimedia@freebsd.org Received: from firehouse.net (spook.networkoperations.com [209.42.203.59]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with SMTP id 6E39B37BAE6 for ; Wed, 12 Apr 2000 07:08:59 -0700 (PDT) (envelope-from abc@firehouse.net) Received: (qmail 1685 invoked by uid 100); 12 Apr 2000 14:08:56 -0000 Date: Wed, 12 Apr 2000 10:08:55 -0400 From: Alan Clegg To: Tim Pozar Cc: Bryan Collins , multimedia@FreeBSD.ORG Subject: Re: Ok, anyone with icecast/liveice running right under 4.0? You want a line that looks more like: open(STREAM, "catdsp -d $device -r $samplerate $catdspmono | lame -s $ksamplerate -p -S $lamemono -b $kbitrate -f -x -r - |"); or if you are using the Fraunhofer codec... open(STREAM, "catdsp -d $device -r $samplerate $catdspmono | /usr/local/mp3enc31/mp3enc31 -sti -sto -l3wav -v -qual 0 $mp3encmono -br $bitrate -sr $samplerate |"); Change the arguments as needed... :-) I will post a more current mixice up there today. I had problems with ESDREC stuffing extra data into the stream so I wrote my own. > Many thanks for all the things you have done for the community Tim! Thanks... I measure it about 25-30 db down. This hiss is the scanner's squelch not gating all the way. You could run a gate or an expander between the radio and the sound card. This would silence the audio more between transmissions of the fire department. If you are handy with Op-Amps you can do this with a varible gain Op-Amp such as an VCA or perhaps a voltage comparator that only turns on an Op-Amp when it sees a signal. Check out Walter Jung's "Op-Amp Cookbooks" for more details. Couple of comments.... You can get away with a lower sample rate as the bandwidth on public safety two-way is at the most 4Khz. You could sample this at 16Khz. The bit rate could also be reduced to 16 or even 8 Kb/s. You can get away with some more streams that way. I'm tryint to read audio from the 'linein' on my soundcard, and pump it to an icecast server for streaming. icecast and the streaming part seem to be OK. What I can't seem to workout, is the audio formats that get read, and what the encoders, like LAME, require for input. I have sox, lame, catdsp etc, and I can't seem to find a combination which will read from either /dev/audio or /dev/dspW and convert to mp3 and play it at the same speed without crackling and hissing. I know the hardware works. I downloaded and installed DAP, and I can record and playback without any problems or extra noise. I have a Vibra16 running 4.0-RELEASE. If anyone already has this going, would you mind sending me your switches etc for catdsp/sox/lame/mixice/icecast ? I'm going crazy here. It contains some major changes to the driver internals and I'd like as many people to test it as possible. 1) The driver compiles on the Alpha. I've no idea if it works as I do not have any AXP hardware. Please test it and let me know what happens. **the driver may panic the machine so only try this on experimental machines ** 2) The driver uses bus_space(). This makes the driver more portable over OS platforms, and requried a large rewrite of parts of the driver. I want people to test this and make sure nothing has been broken There is no new functionality in this release. Since 2.08, I've been working on cross-platform support to increase our userbase. Please do whatever testing you can. Even if you just run FXTV, that is fine.
