The next day, I had the FreeBSD 4.1.1 CD, and read about this problem in the archives for this list. FreeBSD 4.1.1 and/or turning off boot virus checking (I did both at the same time) fixed this problem, and I installed FreeBSD just fine. Look in the archives for "Athlon Boot Problem", specifically, a post from John Baldwin on 19 July 2000. It explained everything. HTH. Later, --jim PS: I suppose it's time to update some of my randomly-selected .signature files, eh? After all, they should say FreeBSD 4.1.1, not Linux 2.2.12. :-) Yet another thing on my TODO list (relating to my new computer).... -- 73 DE N5IAL (/4) MiSTie #49997 < Running Linux 2.2.12 > jim@n5ial.gnt.net || j.graham@ieee.org ICBM / Hurricane: 30.39735N 86.60439W Down, not across. --alt.sysadmin.recovery motto To Unsubscribe: send mail to majordomo@FreeBSD.org with "unsubscribe freebsd-questions" in the body of the message
