It is a bug in picobsd that it depends on this link. buildworld doesn't depend on this link either (since at least 3.2 or so, iirc). It was a big pita and caused all kinds of problems, so it was eliminated. Looks like picobsd hasn't kept up if it requires it still. I just got back from the one in Westminster CO. The one in Boulder was lame enough to want me to prepay the whole thing, while the one in Westminster charged me only 20% down, completely refundable to hold one. I was told two weeks or so. I'm actually getting mine for my wife to use as a "laptop" machine. She needs a unit she can toss into a bag and drive to remote points and then plug something into it. The USB is saving my butt since it means that CDROM, ZIP drive, printers, networking and scanners are all available to her at least at home. I'm ashamed to say that I'll be putting Win98 on mine, but not before playing around with FreeBSD. I do have a mkflash program that does make installs in a bunch of places in the tree that fits in about 12MB. However, that's all just the mondane programs, doesn't even include X. Oh well, it is optimized for my employer's semi-embedded systems which are on 32MB DOC2k or 48 or 64MB CF. Love the CF, dislike the DOCs, too many failed on us. I put the whole $99 down on mine at Circuit City on Saturday. Here in Indiana we have a good supply of odd hardware. I walked in and back out with several APEX AD600-A DVD players the other day as well. They told me early this week, but it sounds like it might be a while longer than that. I'll post details/pictures of my experiments/progress when I get my hands on it. - Steve To Unsubscribe: send mail to majordomo@FreeBSD.org with "unsubscribe freebsd-small" in the body of the message From owner-freebsd-small Mon Mar 13 22:30: 2 2000 Delivered-To: freebsd-small@freebsd.org Received: from web112.yahoomail.com (web112.yahoomail.com [205.180.60.82]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with SMTP id 4BAA137B6E4 for ; Mon, 13 Mar 2000 22:29:51 -0800 (PST) (envelope-from dyeske@yahoo.com) Received: (qmail 25769 invoked by uid 60001); 14 Mar 2000 06:29:44 -0000 Message-ID: <20000314062944.25768.qmail@web112.yahoomail.com> Received: from [209.186.12.34] by web112.yahoomail.com; Mon, 13 Mar 2000 22:29:44 PST Date: Mon, 13 Mar 2000 22:29:44 -0800 (PST) From: David Yeske Subject: 8 meg picobsd To: freebsd-small@freebsd.org MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii Sender: owner-freebsd-small@FreeBSD.ORG Precedence: bulk X-Loop: FreeBSD.ORG I have a 8 meg disk on chip system and I was wondering if anyone had tried cramming 8 megs of stuff on it using crunchen and kzip? The Circuit City here in 72701 let me reserve one from their next shipment for $20 down. Since it will be a gift, the sales rep told me that I wouldn't have to set up the internet account and that the recipient could call I-Opener to start the service. The standard picobsd filesystem is fixed in size since it's loaded by the bootloader and backed by a file instead of swap. If you want more space you'll have to mount your own MFS. No, what I'm trying to do is figure out how to get sash to replace all the normal commands in PicoBSD. sash -cp = cp sash -mv = mv It'll take less room that way.
