It will happily find files from a world build and use them. PicoBSD depends on being able to set NO_PAM to disable the pam links in login, and if you have a build there the make won't pick it up. I should patch PicoBSD to reset OBJDIR so this doesn't happen. > 2. I have read on the FreeBSD-small mailing list that there are some > problems with PicoBSD. Is it better in 4.0-stable? There are patches pending for -CURRENT, mainly revolving around the kernel options necessary to maintain the compatibility shims for non-newbus drivers. I'm in the process of testing that patch (once I get a clean copy). I think this also applies to 4.X, but I'll have to try building on that (and fixing -CURRENT) before making any promises. Greg's make-based builder in custom/ may also have this flexibility, I've never looked at it. > 3. Is PicoBSD the best development platform for a 16MB image (space not so > tight)- should I move in the direction of hand assembling my own image file > without MFS, etc. as done in PicoBSD? Yes, it'll work fine. You may want to specify your own type and hack it into the build scripts so you don't have to keep redefining the image size, and add a disktab entry so PicoBSD can label the final image properly. Don't forget the filesystem size is the *expanded* image size, and it gets compressed, so it can be significanly larger than your available storage. For instance the install image is 2400KB but it compresses down to just over 1024KB. :) Doug White | FreeBSD: The Power to Serve dwhite@resnet.uoregon.edu | www.FreeBSD.org To Unsubscribe: send mail to majordomo@FreeBSD.org with "unsubscribe freebsd-small" in the body of the message From owner-freebsd-small Mon Apr 24 10: 5:25 2000 Delivered-To: freebsd-small@freebsd.org Received: from freefall.freebsd.org (freefall.FreeBSD.ORG [204.216.27.21]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 199E137B8FE; Mon, 24 Apr 2000 10:05:24 -0700 (PDT) (envelope-from dwhite@FreeBSD.org) Received: (from dwhite@localhost) by freefall.freebsd.org (8.9.3/8.9.2) id KAA65053; Mon, 24 Apr 2000 10:05:22 -0700 (PDT) (envelope-from dwhite@FreeBSD.org) Date: Mon, 24 Apr 2000 10:05:22 -0700 (PDT) From: Message-Id: <200004241705.KAA65053@freefall.freebsd.org> To: dwhite@FreeBSD.org, freebsd-small@FreeBSD.org, dwhite@FreeBSD.org Subject: Re: misc/17737: Major repair of PicoBSD Sender: owner-freebsd-small@FreeBSD.ORG Precedence: bulk X-Loop: FreeBSD.ORG Synopsis: Major repair of PicoBSD Responsible-Changed-From-To: freebsd-small->dwhite Responsible-Changed-By: dwhite Responsible-Changed-When: Mon Apr 24 10:04:48 PDT 2000 Responsible-Changed-Why: I now have the machine and some time to work on this :-) To Unsubscribe: send mail to majordomo@FreeBSD.org with "unsubscribe freebsd-small" in the body of the message From owner-freebsd-small Tue Apr 25 18:43:28 2000 Delivered-To: freebsd-small@freebsd.org Received: from mail.nomadix.com (mail.nomadix.com [205.147.25.2]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 78CD937B700 for ; Tue, 25 Apr 2000 18:43:23 -0700 (PDT) (envelope-from mike@mikeandpam.com) Received: from mikeandpam.com (nomad33.nomadix.com [205.147.25.33]) by mail.nomadix.com (8.8.3/8.7.2) with ESMTP id SAA08499 for ; Tue, 25 Apr 2000 18:38:24 -0700 (PDT) Message-ID: <390648E9.3E8B010C@mikeandpam.com> Date: Tue, 25 Apr 2000 18:39:53 -0700 From: Mike Carlton X-Mailer: Mozilla 4.7 [en] (WinNT; U) X-Accept-Language: en MIME-Version: 1.0 To: freebsd-small@freebsd.org Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit Sender: owner-freebsd-small@FreeBSD.ORG Precedence: bulk X-Loop: FreeBSD.ORG subscribe mcarlton@nomadix.com To Unsubscribe: send mail to majordomo@FreeBSD.org with "unsubscribe freebsd-small" in the body of the message From owner-freebsd-small Fri Apr 28 3:35:32 2000 Delivered-To: freebsd-small@freebsd.org Received: from seaholm.caamora.com.au (seaholm.caamora.com.au [203.7.226.5]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 67C6037B961 for ; Fri, 28 Apr 2000 03:35:28 -0700 (PDT) (envelope-from jlm@seaholm.caamora.com.au) Received: (from jlm@localhost) by seaholm.caamora.com.au (8.8.7/8.8.7) id UAA09264; Fri, 28 Apr 2000 20:35:06 +1000 (EST) (envelope-from jlm) Message-ID: <20000428203506.49893@caamora.com.au> Date: Fri, 28 Apr 2000 20:35:06 +1000 From: jonathan michaels To: bugs@bugs.au.freebsd.org Cc: small@freebsd.org Subject: to all realtime developers ---- Reply-To: jlm@seaholm.caamora.com.au Mime-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii X-Mailer: Mutt 0.84e Sender: owner-freebsd-small@FreeBSD.ORG Precedence: bulk X-Loop: FreeBSD.ORG all, two new entries into the 'open source' community ... Information can be obtained from: http://www.developer.axis.com/software/jffs/ "JFFS is the Journaling Flash File System developed by Axis Communications in Sweden, aimed at providing a crash/powerdown-safe filesystem for disk-less embedded devices. It is released under the GPL, and the current version works for the Linux 2.0 kernel series and memory-mapped industry-standard flash-memories (aka NOR-flashes)."
