Hello, list, I am facing a problem which unfortunately could not be resolved by posting it at the freebsd-questions list. Therefore I would like to ask this list for help: Due to some incompatibility of the PCI IDE controller of my hardware (Artist Oxford notebook, ACER compatible) with the kernel on the installation disk (FreeBSD 4.1 and 4.2) I generated a custom kernel which supports the wd* instead of the newer ad* devices and also supports my SlimSCSI PCMCIA card (wanted to install from a external SCSI CDROM). 1st problem: The custom kernel now detects the IDE controller and the hard rive, but the installer finds no disk. How can I achieve that the installer supports (also) the wd* devices? 2nd problem: The SlimSCSI card is detected correctly, but the installer finds no CDROM drive. What am I doing wrong? Again, apologies for posting installation related question here, but it seems that my problems are byond the scope of the freebsd-questions list.
