I didn't check performance (as I didn't really care for that, this was someone else's problem) but did the more interesting part: I turned off a disk and waited for activation of the hot spare and - while it was being refreshed pulled another disk from the RAID 0+1 sets. The SCSI solution was whining a bit louder about life being unfair and performance being degraded. Considering the price of both solutions it seems to me that the 3ware controllers are a good deal. But you should order their 36 inch cables too... And a good casing that gives you some space for all those cables. Noses. It works, but it reports the chipset temp at 186.0 degrees and 0.0 for CPU #0, so that can't be right. The fan RPM's are not right. The voltages do look right, however. My question is how do I figure out what kind of monitor chip I have? I don't see anything in dmesg, but here's what I do have. It's a PCChips M810LR, socket A, loaded with an AMD Duron 750. It has integrated video and LAN, and one serial port. atapci0: isab0: sis0: pci1: pcib1: Anyone else been able to monitor the hardware with this board? Mike, if you have the time, could you ellaborate on that "what you are doing" and how it matches up with the drivers in FreeBSD. I think many people would be happy [well, at least me] if you made a quick bulletted list. For example: - If you want good driver support, the 3ware card is a good choice - If you want excellent speed, the Mylex card is a smart choice - etc,etc Or maybe just a couple quick notes, so someone could get this into a doc format somehow. I know you must be a busy man so simple "F$%* Off, do it yourself!" would be understandable. Or does this information already exist in some document? Nick Rogness - Keep on Routing in a Free World... Yes. They are willing to work with you under NDA but appear to consider themselves in the software business. They want to do the driver themselves and distribute binary versions, even for open source. They have a Linux driver for this card (Red Hat 6.2, I think). You can dissasemble their Linux driver with objdump and see that it appears to be doing a significant amount of signal processing (FFTs). IIRC, the card contains an ARM, and is in effect an asymettric co-processor. So it appears that their hardware is best considered a hardware-accelerator for their DSL signal processing software. They are pleasant to talk to, and make it clear as to the difficulties of making money in the commodity hardware business. - bruce To Unsubscribe: send mail to majordomo@FreeBSD.org with "unsubscribe freebsd-hardware" in the body of the message
