But even > when i use localhost, it doesn't work. :-\ Do you by any chance run current? Why I'm asking is that I got the same kind of failure with very straightforward networking program (just does getByName() and sends udp packets to the obtained address). And this program used to work at least some 6 months ago. Since then I upgraded system couple of times, and now the very same program causes java 1.2.2 (FreeBSD native built from port) to coredump with the similar simpthoms as yours. So, I figure, it has something to do with my system upgrade (libraries? syscalls?). I even rebuilt jdk, but it didn't help. The simple program below causes java to die at the line where DatagramPacket is constructed: ---- import java.net.*; import java.io.*; public class dns { public static void main(String[] args) throws InterruptedException { byte[] buffer = new byte[2048]; try { InetAddress addr=InetAddress.getByName(args[0]); DatagramPacket packet = new DatagramPacket(buffer, buffer.length, addr,1111); } catch(Exception e) { e.printStackTrace(System.out); } } } ---- I'm going to investigate this, if I can. -- #include To Unsubscribe: send mail to majordomo@FreeBSD.org with "unsubscribe freebsd-java" in the body of the message From owner-freebsd-java Fri Aug 3 6:30:19 2001 Delivered-To: freebsd-java@freebsd.org Received: from elm.phenome.org (elm.phenome.org [194.153.169.3]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 9674B37B407 for ; Fri, 3 Aug 2001 06:30:16 -0700 (PDT) (envelope-from joshua@roughtrade.net) Received: from localhost (joshua@localhost [127.0.0.1]) by localhost (8.12.0.Beta7/8.12.0.Beta7/Debian 8.12.0.Beta7-1) with ESMTP id f73DUACC026024; Fri, 3 Aug 2001 14:30:14 +0100 Date: Fri, 3 Aug 2001 14:30:10 +0100 (BST) From: Joshua Goodall X-X-Sender: To: Ari Suutari Cc: Subject: Re: commapi ports (sun/freebsd), how to get them commited ? I need to use Java 2, so I'm running linux-jdk1.3.1 rather than the native 1.1.8 port. The issue seems to be that when the PHP servlet attempts to load in libphp4.so (using System.loadLibrary()), the ABIs don't match (Linux java process vs. FreeBSD shared library). Any suggestions for how I can work around this? I'm not a FreeBSD Linux emulation expert, so maybe if there's a way to make the binaries more compatible, that would solve my problem. Incidentally, I tried compiling libphp4.so on a Linux box and moving it over, then used brandelf to label it as Linux, but that gave me the same ABI incompatibility error on loadLibrary(). You should be able to load a libphp4.so compiled on a Linux box with the Linux JDK. Note that it may be depending on other shared libraries that aren't present though. IMO your best solution is to simply use the 1.2.2 native JDK port, unless you desperately need something from 1.3.1. -- Greg Lewis Email : glewis@eyesbeyond.com Eyes Beyond Phone : (801) 765 1887 Information Technology Web : http://www.eyesbeyond.com To Unsubscribe: send mail to majordomo@FreeBSD.org with "unsubscribe freebsd-java" in the body of the message
