ESD *is* running and working, so that's not it. But I tried your workaround. Gnomesounds still does not work, and I don't get any errormessages to indicate any problems. So I don't know wether Gnome can't connect to ESD or there is some broken playback rutine in Gnome. On a side note, using ESD seems to *delay* sound, so using eg. xine with ESD and the soundtrack gets really out of sync.
