I >don't mind changes here an there but will it be like switching from windows to linux for the first time in a sense or >no? I'll give my opinion in laymen's terms a) writing start up scripts for FreeBSD is easier b) for adding applications and services, the ports collection alone makes FreeBSD light years ahead of all flavors of Linux.....installing and uninstalling apps are a cinch and usually work first attempt c) as far as commands and results from them, there is literally no difference between FreeBSD and Linux, because both operating system platforms use the same shells d) if you have a stable broadband connection, all you need to install FreeBSD is a pair of floppies, one with the kern.flp image written to it, and the other with the mfs.flp image written to it. Both are available via FTP from www.freebsd.org , along with the rawrite program which will write the images to floppy for you. Boot your system to these floppies and the Setup begins. After numerous config questions, the setup asks you your install method. Choose FTP and off you go. About 2 hrs. later, you have FreeBSD installled......no CD's or floppies required. I went with Mandrake first, then RedHat, then Slackware. If you've ever used Slackware at all, it's the closest I've seen to FreeBSD. So= far, I like Mandrake better than Red Hat Linux. Why? Well, for starters,= RH Linux still uses sendmail as the default MTA, Mandrake uses Postfix -= an excellent MTA. Good to hear you finally solved this, but I'd just like to point out that user ppp does in fact support 'traditional' logins, the 'set login' like infact.. I believe that if you have just 'set login' in your ppp.conf, it uses pap/chap, BUT if you have stuff following set login, it behaves like the traditional login script you are needing. I would quote the example, but I can't remember it off the top of my head, but it's in the pmdemand section of the example file IIRC. Happy New Year. *snip* _________________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!?
