I agree with this level of support. The only question I have is: Having just upgraded my ports/Mk I can't build any ports on 3.x and since there isn't an "upgrade kit" anymore it isn't clear what I need to "fight" to get the one or two ports updated before I can schedule downtime and upgrade all these 3.x systems to 4.x. So I have a suggestion: Could the ports web page be modified this way: Start a new paragraph beginning with "The 3.x branch is fast approaching", and add something like this after "4.3-RELEASE is rolled." "In the meantime, many of the ports here *may* work on 3.x systems if you do the following: xxxxx". (Obviously someone far more knowlegable than me would have to fill in the xxxx! ;-) And this would be deleted when 4.3 is out (on CDROM please!). That would greatly help the (I'm guessing) many of us who accept the need to move on in our lives (and upgrade to a version of FBSD from this millenium), but just can't do it *right now*. --------------------------------------------------------------------- Robert Withrow, R.W. I think it's better to install *.conf files as *.conf.sample, so they aren't picked up by the program upon startup, and may safely be removed/ updated across upgrades. Then, you may put something in the pkg-message letting the user know that a sample file has been installed; most of the time, though, this is not even necessary (except for especially clueless users ;) G'luck, Peter -- If I had finished this sentence, To Unsubscribe: send mail to majordomo@FreeBSD.org with "unsubscribe freebsd-ports" in the body of the message From owner-freebsd-ports Sun Mar 4 8:27:24 2001 Delivered-To: freebsd-ports@freebsd.org Received: from ringworld.nanolink.com (ringworld.nanolink.com [195.24.48.13]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with SMTP id BDCB337B719 for ; Sun, 4 Mar 2001 08:27:20 -0800 (PST) (envelope-from roam@orbitel.bg) Received: (qmail 76571 invoked by uid 1000); 4 Mar 2001 16:26:54 -0000 Date: Sun, 4 Mar 2001 18:26:54 +0200 From: Peter Pentchev To: Mario Sergio Fujikawa Ferreira Cc: freebsd-ports@freebsd.org Subject: Re: FreeBSD port openjade patch Message-ID: <20010304182654.E71838@ringworld.oblivion.bg> Mail-Followup-To: Mario Sergio Fujikawa Ferreira , freebsd-ports@freebsd.org References: <20010226144045.A27621@Fedaykin.here> Mime-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii Content-Disposition: inline User-Agent: Mutt/1.2.5i In-Reply-To: <20010226144045.A27621@Fedaykin.here>; from lioux@uol.com.br on Mon, Feb 26, 2001 at 02:40:45PM -0300 Sender: owner-freebsd-ports@FreeBSD.ORG Precedence: bulk X-Loop: FreeBSD.org On Mon, Feb 26, 2001 at 02:40:45PM -0300, Mario Sergio Fujikawa Ferreira wrote: [snip] > Why the following sed and perl regexps are not similar? > > 1) ${SED} -e 's/-m[0-9a-zA-Z]+(=[0-9a-zA-Z]*)?//g' \ > -e 's/-O[s2-9]+//g > 2) ${PERL} -p -ne "s/-O[s2-9]+//g;s/-m[0-9a-z]+(=[0-9a-z]*)?//g" > > Applied against the following test > CFLAGS=-O -pipe -Wall -march=pentium -mcpu=pentium -mpentium -Os > I get the following respective results: > > 1) CFLAGS=-O -pipe -Wall -mpentium -march=pentium -mcpu=pentium -Os > 2) CFLAGS=-O -pipe -Wall I think you want sed's -E flag which makes it process extended regular expressions. The problem is that if the port uses the supplied INSTALL_* macros chown and chgrp will be requested and will fail. But installing ports by mere mortals makes much sense together with a changed prefix (like PREFIX=$HOME PKG_DBDIR=$HOME/pkg) and should be possible. There is already code for non-superuser operation inside bsd.port.mk (like not doing chown -R after extract, not running mtree and warning about permissions) but this patch is still missing. >How-To-Repeat: >Fix: Index: bsd.port.mk =================================================================== RCS file: /home/mkamm/Repository/scripts/bsd.port.mk,v retrieving revision 1.1 diff -u -u -r1.1 bsd.port.mk --- bsd.port.mk 2001/03/04 19:07:54 1.1 +++ bsd.port.mk 2001/03/04 19:33:54 @@ -1022,6 +1022,8 @@ MTREE_ARGS?= -U ${MTREE_FOLLOWS_SYMLINKS} -f ${MTREE_FILE} -d -e -p # A few aliases for *-install targets +UID != id -u +.if ${UID} == 0 INSTALL_PROGRAM= \ ${INSTALL} ${COPY} ${STRIP} -o ${BINOWN} -g ${BINGRP} -m ${BINMODE} INSTALL_SCRIPT= \ @@ -1030,6 +1032,12 @@ ${INSTALL} ${COPY} -o ${SHAREOWN} -g ${SHAREGRP} -m ${SHAREMODE} INSTALL_MAN= \ ${INSTALL} ${COPY} -o ${MANOWN} -g ${MANGRP} -m ${MANMODE} +.else +INSTALL_PROGRAM= ${INSTALL} ${COPY} ${STRIP} -m ${BINMODE} +INSTALL_SCRIPT= ${INSTALL} ${COPY} -m ${BINMODE} +INSTALL_DATA= ${INSTALL} ${COPY} -m ${SHAREMODE} +INSTALL_MAN= ${INSTALL} ${COPY} -m ${MANMODE} +.endif INSTALL_MACROS= BSD_INSTALL_PROGRAM="${INSTALL_PROGRAM}" \ BSD_INSTALL_SCRIPT="${INSTALL_SCRIPT}" \ >Release-Note: >Audit-Trail: >Unformatted: To Unsubscribe: send mail to majordomo@FreeBSD.org with "unsubscribe freebsd-ports" in the body of the message From owner-freebsd-ports Sun Mar 4 12:50:14 2001 Delivered-To: freebsd-ports@hub.freebsd.org Received: from freefall.freebsd.org (freefall.freebsd.org [216.136.204.21]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id EA80537B718 for ; Sun, 4 Mar 2001 12:50:01 -0800 (PST) (envelope-from gnats@FreeBSD.org) Received: (from gnats@localhost) by freefall.freebsd.org (8.11.1/8.11.1) id f24Ko1Q53180; Sun, 4 Mar 2001 12:50:01 -0800 (PST) (envelope-from gnats) Received: from mta01-svc.ntlworld.com (mta01-svc.ntlworld.com [62.253.162.41]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id CDD6237B718 for ; Sun, 4 Mar 2001 12:48:40 -0800 (PST) (envelope-from greid@ukug.uk.freebsd.org) Received: from m415-mp1-cvx1b.gui.ntl.com ([62.252.9.159]) by mta01-svc.ntlworld.com (InterMail vM.4.01.02.27 201-229-119-110) with ESMTP id <20010304204831.WZKQ283.mta01-svc.ntlworld.com@m415-mp1-cvx1b.gui.ntl.com> for ; Sun, 4 Mar 2001 20:48:31 +0000 Message-Id: Date: Sun, 4 Mar 2001 20:58:25 +0000 (GMT) From: George Reid To: FreeBSD-gnats-submit@freebsd.org Subject: ports/25532: [PATCH] Update irc/ninja -> 1.5.2 Sender: owner-freebsd-ports@FreeBSD.ORG Precedence: bulk X-Loop: FreeBSD.org >Number: 25532 >Category: ports >Synopsis: [PATCH] Update irc/ninja -> 1.5.2 >Confidential: no >Severity: non-critical >Priority: low >Responsible: freebsd-ports >State: open >Quarter: >Keywords: >Date-Required: >Class: change-request >Submitter-Id: current-users >Arrival-Date: Sun Mar 04 12:50:01 PST 2001 >Closed-Date: >Last-Modified: >Originator: George Reid >Release: FreeBSD 5.0-CURRENT i386 >Organization: FreeBSD UKUG >Environment: n/a >Description: Update port irc/ninja to version 1.5.2.
