Hi,

I'm trying to do a project with interrupt driven parallel port, but I can't seem to find
any code to do so. I can only find information on ppi, which is great, except I don't
think it handles interrupts. Can someone PLEASE help. It would be greatly
appreciated.

What exactly are you trying to do?

The standard parallel port hardware doesn't actually provide much by way
of useful interrrupts - it can do interrupts on the strobe line, and these
are supported by the ordinary lpt driver to do interrupt-per-character
output. If you want more throughput, use ECP mode (also supported by the
ordinary LPT driver, with lptcontrol -e, provided that your kernel is
configured with a DMA channel for the ppc0 device - the GENERIC kernel
isn't).

If you are trying to use the parallel port as general-purpose I/O rather
than a byte-wide output channel, you are probably out of luck.

I've come up with a patch to 4.6-STABLE that lets you write to an ATAPI
DVD+RW drive similar to how you would write a CD-RW. I'm not much of a
hardware or kernel programmer, so use at your own risk. Please let me know
if you have any luck with it.

It consists of a patch to the atapi CD driver plus a patch to burncd. The
main thing you need to do that is different from a CD-RW is formatting the
DVD+RW before you try to write to it. You can do that with this command:

burncd format

Once you have formatted it, you need to use a somewhat different command to
write to it because it doesn't do tracks like a CD, so I need to know to
skip that code in burncd. Here's how to write an image named 'foo.iso' to
it.

burncd dvdprw foo.iso

I have been using a Sony DVD+RW DRU-120A. Once burned it mounted fine and it
also worked on a Windows 98 machine with a regular DVD drive.

I am looking at a Abit Mainboard with a built in HighPoint HPT372 ATA
RAID Controller.

Anybody had success with this combination and FreeBSD 4.6 using RAID 0???

Thanks for the information

I'm giving some preliminary thought to attempting to port NetBSD's
uaudio to the PCM framework. I *believe* I have a good idea what the
various entry points for CHANNEL_DECLARE() (in PCM) do. I think. Maybe.

What is less clear to me is the sort of hows and whys of USB device
drivers. My presumption is that the USB side of uaudio.c (from NetBSD)
should be relatively straightforward to port, and that the majority of
the work will be to shoehorn that into the PCM side. I further presume
that when I'm done, I'll have a snd_uaudio.ko module that will have
module dependencies on USB and PCM and that it will just work and stuff. :-)

The target implementation is the Stereo Link 1200 (www.stereo-link.com).
I don't have one yet. I will consider buying one when I get something
that seems like it might work.

Anyone have any comments?

That sounds fair, and exactly what I'd assume too.

I've not looked at the code yet, but if you're up for doing the work
I'll help out in whatever way I can.

I'm not sure whether NetBSD use the same pcm framework that we do.
I doubt that they use the same drivers, but the infrastructure might
be compatible. It's probably worth dropping Cameron (cg@FreeBSD.org)
and seeing what his opinion is. I know he was talking about doing
some usb audio work a little while ago, but was waiting for the
async pipes to be ported to FreeBSD. (It's possible that there's
not enough support in -stable to run uaudio at this time - the USB
controller code is a bit behind and I'm not sure whether it has
async pipes yet).

Joe

Hi all, I have a SBLive! card and the driver that -STABLE comes with
works okay save for the rear speakers. Has anyone done a port of the
Linux driver (opendriver.creative.com I think)? Or how would you go
about installing it with the linux compatibility?

Does anyone know if the D-Link DWL-520 PCI wireless card works with
-Stable?

I'm looking to get one for my firewall but I can't find it mentioned in
the list of compatible hardware.

I have one and it works really well. It uses the wi driver.

The snd_emu10k1 driver has existed in FreeBSD for quite a while.
type 'kldload snd_emu10k1' to load it after boot, or add the
line 'snd_emu10k1_load="YES"' to /boot/loader.conf.

I believe he was trying to say he has used the freebsd pcm driver and
it doesn't correctly work with the rear speakers.

Doh, that's what I get for trying to do email while the kids are using
me as a jungle-gym. In that case, doing a port might not be too
hard, especially considering that the existing FreeBSD driver was
a port from Linux.

Wow. Well, that makes it sort of a moot point.

I don't speak much Japanese, but I've sent an e-mail to the page author
to talk about including it in the tree.

Are you using 128-bit WEP? There are problems with the Prism-2.5 based
DWL-650 (see PR kern/39928) and I wonder whether the DWL-520 is also
affected or not.

Way too early to include it in the tree. I use it, and it works but
it causes kernel panics quite often (eg, if you unplug it while audio
output is going on). Also, all the recording code is disabled
(#ifdef'd out for freebsd) -- only playback works. Check the archives
on -multimedia of some months back. Also, that tarball won't work on
the present -stable sources, but it's easy to fix.

Maybe there's further progress since then, that tarball is quite old.
I'd be interested if you do hear back from the author. Otherwise,
I'm no expert but was thinking of playing around with it further at
some point. However, if you can do something with it, great.

I'm using it with a Griffin iMic usb audio device, which is meant for
a Mac but works perfectly under linux.

It might be. I consider WEP to be pretty much worthless so I use other
means to secure the network. I willing to test the card if there is
interest in knowing for sure.

Please, do it ;-) I am using IPSEC anyway, but any information that could
help to fix wi(4) (or adding a workaround for a firmware bug) will be
useful. Don't forget to include the wi(4) initialization messages in your
test report. My DWL-650 is identified as:

wi0: using RF:PRISM2.5 MAC:ISL3873
wi0: Intersil Firmware: Primary 1.00.07, Station 1.03.05

I can trigger the problem sending a file such as /kernel via scp or ftp.
Be advised: your system may hang, and since the DWL-520 does not use a
removable pccard, you may need to reset the system.

Thank you,
JMA

I am building up a new box. I was going to shorten some wires
and make up new wires. I was looking for the 4-pin Molex connector
that is used for the power from the power supply, but I can
not find them. Does any body know who makes them and where
I can get them.

Ok, will take me a few days to test things. This card is in my Seokris
4501
which is my access point/firewall/nat box for my home network. I will
need
to move it over to my test box and find my old access point to test
things.
Its around here somewhere... :)

Hi guys.

I have a problem getting FreeBSD to accept my 690 GB RAID-5 Array. This is=
=20
what I see in /stand/sysinstall diskPartitionEditor:

WARNING: A geometry of 90103/255/63 for twed0 is incorrect. Bla bla...

The array is set up of 7 pcs of 120 GB IBM disks on a 3ware Escalade 7850=20
controller in RAID-5 (64K blocksize). I created a smaller array of 3 disks=
=20
and that worked fine. No problems in FreeBSD.

# dmesg | grep twe

Ideas anyone? How can I figure out the correct geometry?

Regards,

I did, but I cannot get any labels on the slice. When trying to write from=
=20
disklabel I got: "Operation not supported by device". Well, I have no more=
=20
time for this now so I created 2 arrays with 4 disks each instead and that=
=20
worked out just fine. No problems with fdisk/disklabel.

Maybe it is not worth the effort... I am quite sure that the DWL-520 will
fail in the same way that the DWL-650 does. I thought that making the
tests would be far less complicated for you than it actually is.

Thanks,

Check again, and I think you will discover that the two machines do
not have the same install. In FreeBSD 4-stable the default receive
window was reduced from 64k to 57k on 7 June 2002. One of your
machines has that change, and the other one does not have it.

Here is the explanation of the change from the commit log message:

  revision 1.51.2.13
date: 2002/06/07 20:23:44; author: obrien; state: Exp; lines: +1 -1
IPfiler has problems with its keep state when the windows size is 64k.
So reduce it to 57k for now. It should remain 64k in -CURRENT so we can
force a fix in broken software. There is nice explanation in the PR about
the environment in which the bug happens.

You can easily change the receive window with the sysctl variable
"net.inet.tcp.recvspace".

Planning a 4.6p1 install on a new Compaq ML350G2 and wondering if
anybody here has done this before with some success?

I don't use the ML350G2, but the DL380G2. I don't know how much they
differ, but I think the only part that _could_ cause troubles is the RAID
controller. The 380 uses the SmartArray 5* controller, and this one works.

Of course, don't expect any of the hardware monitoring tools etc. to work.

le

Hi, anyone has the Airconnect working together with the PCI-Adapter yet?
What steps did you go to do it?
Please email me directly.
