The purpose of the mirror is to provide a highly available and convinient access service to primarily the univeristy community, and to users of opensource software worldwide. I would very much like to add FreeBSD to what I am mirroring. Well over a TB of disk is available for the task, located on a Clariion RAID 5 and a Sun 220R running solaris8. The link itself, when including I2 connectivity, has approximately 185Mb of bandwidth. There is a long term commitment in mind for this, and I feel it would be beneficial for everyone involved. Per the documentation at: http://www.freebsd.org/doc/en_US.ISO8859-1/articles/hubs/mirror-becomingofficial.html I thought it would be proper to email you guys first before I actually started sucking down data. I have all the requirements all set up and good to go, and would love to start. What do you say? What do you say? got any more of those terabyte raid arrays lying around ? :-) best of luck setting up your freebsd mirror. it might be advisable for you to apply to be a tier-1 and update directly from ftp-master, but to initially populate the archive from a mixture of ftp2 to ftp10.freebsd.org (well, from the variety of different US ones anyway) rather than putting that initial hit on ftp-master for the 40-60G or so of initial content. regards, -jason To Unsubscribe: send mail to majordomo@FreeBSD.org with "unsubscribe freebsd-hubs" in the body of the message From owner-freebsd-hubs Tue Feb 19 10:12:54 2002 Delivered-To: freebsd-hubs@freebsd.org Received: from anduril.ncsa.uiuc.edu (anduril.ncsa.uiuc.edu [141.142.102.8]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 102BC37B416 for ; Tue, 19 Feb 2002 10:12:47 -0800 (PST) Received: by anduril.ncsa.uiuc.edu (Postfix, from userid 501) id 841C2AA53F; Tue, 19 Feb 2002 12:12:49 -0600 (CST) Date: Tue, 19 Feb 2002 12:12:49 -0600 From: Jon Dugan To: Mark Lorenc Cc: freebsd-hubs@FreeBSD.ORG Subject: Re: New Mirror Message-ID: <20020219121249.A2602@ncsa.uiuc.edu> Mime-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii Content-Disposition: inline User-Agent: Mutt/1.2.5i In-Reply-To: ; from jason@dstc.edu.au on Wed, Feb 20, 2002 at 12:03:01AM +1000 Sender: owner-freebsd-hubs@FreeBSD.ORG Precedence: bulk List-ID: List-Archive: (Web Archive) List-Help: (List Instructions) List-Subscribe: List-Unsubscribe: X-Loop: FreeBSD.org Mark, A complete mirror of FreeBSD is available via anonymous rsync is publically available at ftp12.freebsd.org. ftp12 is located here at NCSA and we've got an OC-12 to I2, so feel free to go for it. I think that it has to be some systematic transmission problem on ftp-master, not on our mirror, because for example kdegraphics-2.2.2_2.tgz has the same length on ftp-master and on our mirror. Furthermore, I would not be very surprised that there are some files missing too, or, does anybody know why there is missing packages-4.5-stable/INDEX? Well, how is the transmission done to ftp-master? I'm currently involved with some problems NetBSD folks are having with rsync. The recent versions (at least 2.5.2) did fuck up their CVS repository on transfering it to mirror sites. Updates have been canceled for some distribution hosts. The master server anoncvs.netbsd.org requires you to use rsync-2.3.3. Thor Lancelot claims, that's the last bug free enough version. (However here on my FreeBSD box I have problems with that too, not sure if entirely related to rsync or to ssh). If rsync is involed in the transfer to ftp-master, maybe people can check, if the problems a result of this. Peter? Currently I am only getting cvs-all, and updating from cvsup.hu.freebsd.org (once every 3 hours; I chose .hu. because it is only 7 hops away). I see there doesn't seem to be any other cvsup mirror registered in Romania. I am currently connected via a 10Mbps link to our provider, who has good exchanges with all other major Romanian ISPs. Does carrying only cvs-all qualify me for becoming an official mirror? Also, I update from cvsup.hu.freebsd.org as often as they do, about 6 minutes after they update. The link seems very good, but if necessary I can start updating more often, from another server. Please advise me in this matter. Once I get your OK, I will contact the hostmaster for ro.freebsd.org.
