I installed kinput2+freewnn+sj3 and the servers are running. I'm using a Gnome2 setup. I ran: $kinput2 -canna +xim & For Gnome2 applications (like Pan2), I can chose XIM as the input method. But can't seem to be able to input any characters or see any Japanese characters. I can't seem to find what Japanese fonts work under X/Gnome either. Basically, how does XIM work? The Gnome2 launcher menus do show Japanese fonts properly under locale/language and translations. Mozilla is also rendering Japanese just fine. So Japanese fonts are working... but I'm totally lost as to how to get them working/showing in normal apps and editors. Can I use a unicode font (like Bitstream CyberBit) and enable most of my Gnome apps to display multibyte characters without much hassle? Any helps, leads and links would be much appreciated.
