I woulder if it might be a worthwhile project to start a "FreeBSD videoconference" project.. i.e. using a set of tools that are definitly supported and a supported videocam, we could say "If you get this camera, and load the following ports, you will be able to take part in conferences by attaching to the following freeBSD address" If we used the old 'wb' tool we could even have discussions that peiple without cameras could follow.. If we got enough regionall FreeBSD using ISPs on board we could do enough load-sharing that it wouldn't kill any particular member. It'd have been nice if (for example) the KSE talk I did last week at BAFUG could have been to a wider audience.. It is not a usb camera, i know, we have no support for that in the kernel. One nice feature of vic is that it can capture from a random portion of the screen so you can use it as a primitive whiteboard tool with any program that can produce graphics on your screen. > It'd have been nice if (for example) the KSE talk I did last week > at BAFUG could have been to a wider audience.. well in that specific case just audio would have sufficed :) cheers luigi To Unsubscribe: send mail to majordomo@FreeBSD.org with "unsubscribe freebsd-multimedia" in the body of the message From owner-freebsd-multimedia Mon Oct 14 15:20:31 2002 Delivered-To: freebsd-multimedia@freebsd.org Received: from mx1.FreeBSD.org (mx1.freebsd.org [216.136.204.125]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id E623A37B419; Mon, 14 Oct 2002 15:20:26 -0700 (PDT) Received: from sccrmhc01.attbi.com (sccrmhc01.attbi.com [204.127.202.61]) by mx1.FreeBSD.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 0FA1F43EAC; Mon, 14 Oct 2002 15:20:26 -0700 (PDT) (envelope-from julian@elischer.org) Received: from InterJet.elischer.org ([12.232.206.8]) by sccrmhc01.attbi.com (InterMail vM.4.01.03.27 201-229-121-127-20010626) with ESMTP id <20021014222025.GEEL28253.sccrmhc01.attbi.com@InterJet.elischer.org>; Mon, 14 Oct 2002 22:20:25 +0000 Received: from localhost (localhost.elischer.org [127.0.0.1]) by InterJet.elischer.org (8.9.1a/8.9.1) with ESMTP id PAA75984; Mon, 14 Oct 2002 15:18:38 -0700 (PDT) Date: Mon, 14 Oct 2002 15:18:37 -0700 (PDT) From: Julian Elischer To: Luigi Rizzo Cc: Jonathan Belson , Juli Mallett , John Angelmo , freebsd-current@FreeBSD.ORG, multimedia@FreeBSD.ORG Subject: Re: Quickcam In-Reply-To: <20021014145647.B13974@carp.icir.org> Message-ID: MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: TEXT/PLAIN; charset=US-ASCII Sender: owner-freebsd-multimedia@FreeBSD.ORG Precedence: bulk List-ID: List-Archive: (Web Archive) List-Help: (List Instructions) List-Subscribe: List-Unsubscribe: X-Loop: FreeBSD.org On Mon, 14 Oct 2002, Luigi Rizzo wrote: > > > It'd have been nice if (for example) the KSE talk I did last week > > at BAFUG could have been to a wider audience.. > > well in that specific case just audio would have sufficed :) Uh, yeah.. we had no whiteboard :-( but it'd be nice if FreeBSD could build it's own "conference-net" so we could do that sort of thing.. Why not look at an H.323 application? How about something like GnomeMeeting (/usr/ports/net/gnomemeeting) ? GnomeMeeting can even be made to interoperate other H.323 compliant applications such as Microsoft Netmeeting, but that's probably not so interesting. ;) -- Craig Rodrigues http://www.gis.net/~craigr rodrigc@attbi.com To Unsubscribe: send mail to majordomo@FreeBSD.org with "unsubscribe freebsd-multimedia" in the body of the message From owner-freebsd-multimedia Mon Oct 14 17:11: 4 2002 Delivered-To: freebsd-multimedia@freebsd.org Received: by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix, from userid 931) id EC7A237B401; Mon, 14 Oct 2002 17:11:02 -0700 (PDT) Date: Mon, 14 Oct 2002 17:11:02 -0700 From: Juli Mallett To: Craig Rodrigues Cc: freebsd-current@freebsd.org, multimedia@freebsd.org Subject: Re: Quickcam Message-ID: <20021014171102.A20851@FreeBSD.org> References: <20021014184909.A58122@attbi.com> Mime-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii Content-Disposition: inline User-Agent: Mutt/1.2.5.1i In-Reply-To: <20021014184909.A58122@attbi.com>; from rodrigc@attbi.com on Mon, Oct 14, 2002 at 06:49:09PM -0400 Organisation: The FreeBSD Project X-Alternate-Addresses: , , , , X-Towel: Yes X-LiveJournal: flata, jmallett X-Negacore: Yes Sender: owner-freebsd-multimedia@FreeBSD.ORG Precedence: bulk List-ID: List-Archive: (Web Archive) List-Help: (List Instructions) List-Subscribe: List-Unsubscribe: X-Loop: FreeBSD.org * De: Craig Rodrigues [ Data: 2002-10-14 ] [ Subjecte: Re: Quickcam ] > On Mon, Oct 14, 2002 at 03:39:00PM -0700, Julian Elischer wrote: > > > last i looked, vic did not support the hardware i had at the time. > > > and just testing now i get a lot of > > > > I haven't looked at it for a couple of years.. > > it did work for me then but it may not any more.. > > > vic/vat work but are kind of dated applications. > > Why not look at an H.323 application? > How about something like GnomeMeeting (/usr/ports/net/gnomemeeting) ? > > GnomeMeeting can even be made to interoperate other H.323 > compliant applications such as Microsoft Netmeeting, but that's probably > not so interesting. ;) Actually, it is, especially if you consider how many people have to use windows at work, and may have hardware for video conferencing at work, and thus may be able to use it more optimally there... I'm not sure, since the latency would be high. -Trish -- Trish Lynch trish@bsdunix.net Ecartis Core Team trish@listmistress.org EFNet IRC Oper @ efnet.dkom.at AilleCat@EFNet UNIXNet IRC Admin @ femme.ipv6.sapphite.org AilleCat@UNIXNet Key fingerprint = C44E 8E63 6E3C 18BD 608F E004 9DC7 C2E9 0E24 DFBD To Unsubscribe: send mail to majordomo@FreeBSD.org with "unsubscribe freebsd-multimedia" in the body of the message From owner-freebsd-multimedia Tue Oct 15 13: 3:19 2002 Delivered-To: freebsd-multimedia@freebsd.org Received: from mx1.FreeBSD.org (mx1.freebsd.org [216.136.204.125]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 7B8CC37B401 for ; Tue, 15 Oct 2002 13:03:18 -0700 (PDT) Received: from web21102.mail.yahoo.com (web21102.mail.yahoo.com [216.136.227.104]) by mx1.FreeBSD.org (Postfix) with SMTP id 2747643E8A for ; Tue, 15 Oct 2002 13:03:18 -0700 (PDT) (envelope-from geekvinod@yahoo.com) Message-ID: <20021015195637.31770.qmail@web21102.mail.yahoo.com> Received: from [152.15.26.29] by web21102.mail.yahoo.com via HTTP; Tue, 15 Oct 2002 12:56:37 PDT Date: Tue, 15 Oct 2002 12:56:37 -0700 (PDT) From: Vinod Subject: I B P frames in Real media files? MPEG consists of I,B and P frames.during periods of congestion most adaptation mechanisms drop B and P frames while they pass on the I frames due to its importance. Does real media encoding have such I ,B and P frames? I plan to filter .rm files during periods of congestion by dropping packets at a proxy.Do i need to watch out for what type of frames i am dropping while streaming real media files? It fixes the problem rather than working around it, that is if I've got it straight about what's going on. Of course it needs wider *testing* please anyone. Many thanks go to Charles for giving me a deeper understanding of the bt848 and it's amazing DMA controller, and even more so for walking me to the heart of the problem (an extra odd frame interrupt) and the chunk of offending RISC code. OK I'll be bad - I'll waste bandwidth and include the (massive) patch (and note that BKTR_RESYNC == 1 << 15).
