Benno Rice is doing the major part of the port right now, the rest of us are waiting for the kernel to be finished so we can lend a hand. About your issues with darwin... Have you looked into XF86, you can easily do multiple virtual terminals with that. Or if you're really a sadist, you could probably get getty running on a couple of virtual terminals like they do in linux. Darwin has all the major features of fBSD, it just handles IO and some kernelspace stuff differently. For the time being you'll probably have more success tweaking darwin, than waiting for fBSD. -James Quoting Andrew Gould : > Hello, > > I'm not sure whether I'm emailing an individual or a > mailing list. (But I thought he committed it to ports, so there would be no difference..?) I used 'make MACHINE_ARCH=powerpc CC=powerpc-rtems-gcc LD=powerpc-rtems-ld NM=powerpc-rtems-nm SIZE=powerpc-rtems-size OBJCOPY=powerpc-rtems-objcopy' I have not finished downloading the 'psim-freebsd' port yet but I am not to that part yet, anyway... /var/db/pkg/powerpc-rtems-binutils-2.11.2 /var/db/pkg/powerpc-rtems-gcc-2.95.3 ...is what I have. any advice? (sounds like I must use his port.) -andrew On another note, I tried to file a pr once and was not accepted by the mail server or something heh. It is a simple ipfw segfault that no longer exists in -CURRENT but does in 4.6-RELEASE-p1. It is seen by 'ipfw add unreach' and exists because of not checking to see if a string is NULL or not. #0 0x805ce34 in strtoul () #1 0x8049e22 in fill_reject_code (codep=0xbfbff670, str=0x0) at ipfw.c:975 #2 0x804bc21 in add (ac=0, av=0xbfbffc14) at ipfw.c:1759 To Unsubscribe: send mail to majordomo@FreeBSD.org with "unsubscribe freebsd-ppc" in the body of the message From owner-freebsd-ppc Wed Jul 10 20:29:19 2002 Delivered-To: freebsd-ppc@freebsd.org Received: from mx1.FreeBSD.org (mx1.FreeBSD.org [216.136.204.125]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id A2AA037B400 for ; Wed, 10 Jul 2002 20:29:17 -0700 (PDT) Received: from gt3.OntheNet.com.au (nt.com.au [203.13.70.61]) by mx1.FreeBSD.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 3307943E54 for ; Wed, 10 Jul 2002 20:29:15 -0700 (PDT) (envelope-from peterg@ptree32.com.au) Received: from ptree32.com.au (CPE-203-45-245-64.qld.bigpond.net.au [203.45.245.64]) by gt3.OntheNet.com.au (8.11.4/8.11.4) with ESMTP id g6B3TR605786; Thu, 11 Jul 2002 13:29:28 +1000 (EST) Message-ID: <3D2D0009.1710D79F@ptree32.com.au> Date: Thu, 11 Jul 2002 13:48:25 +1000 From: Peter Grehan Organization: Ptree32 Pty Ltd X-Mailer: Mozilla 4.79 [en] (X11; U; Linux 2.2.14-12 i686) X-Accept-Language: en MIME-Version: 1.0 To: Andy Cc: freebsd-ppc@FreeBSD.ORG Subject: Re: current -CURRENT and compiling powerpc port References: <1026349980.3d2cdb9c1599a@www.wantpackets.com> Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit Sender: owner-freebsd-ppc@FreeBSD.ORG Precedence: bulk List-ID: List-Archive: (Web Archive) List-Help: (List Instructions) List-Subscribe: List-Unsubscribe: X-Loop: FreeBSD.ORG > Anything to be done? I'm using gcc-3.1/binutils-2.12.1 for the kernel, built from stock gcc source. For gcc, the following config was used: ./configure --target=powerpc-freebsd5 --program-prefix=powerpc-fbsd- --with-gnu-as --with-gnu-ld --disable-threads --disable-shared Note that you have to specify powerpc-freebsd5, and not just powerpc-freebsd. Also, as I mentioned in a previous email, the compiler defines _BIG_ENDIAN, which has to be undone in powerpc/include/endian.h. For binutils, it was a bit easier: ./configure --target=powerpc-freebsd5 --program-prefix=powerpc-fbsd- later, Peter. I don't know that that's really necessary. This list gets about 3 or 4 messages a day, on a really busy day. People who ask (politely) about the project status usually get a reasonable answer (go check the URL, etc.) and are told to subscribe for further updates. Also, I think changing the configuration of the mailing list might require more administrative action than some people involved in the FBSD/ppc project could muster. I'm hardly the authority here though. I used the Oct 18 port, and after a cleaning of my old objects in my compile dir, I was able to successfully get an error. I fixed the error, but I do not think this one is my fault. In the files /sys/powerpc/powerpc/extintr.c /interrupt.c /intr_machdep.c /machdep.c there are references to ext_intr_install, but extintr.c and machdep.c were using install_extint for some reason and caused link to fail. A little sed to the said files allowed it to link. (I think some old stuff was in there). Do you experience the same thing? I rm -rf my conf/GENERIC and did a config to the GENERIC config file. After quite a few months, I think the Oct 18 email is old. write_mfs_in_kernel is no longer in /usr/src/release, so I used the only other such file on my system which resided as /usr/src/release/picobsd/build/write_mfs_in_kernel.c. I compiled it without event, but when I try to execute it as shown in the email, it tells me "MFS filesystem signature not found in kernel." Maybe you (anybody) could send me the .c you used in case I am not in error? Am I really the only person getting these kinds of errors? BTW, I'm trying out the gcc-3.1 instructions from Peter's email, and am using the kit from the Oct 18 email at this moment. Heh, I (the other Peter) have usually used 'make TARGET_ARCH=foo' and the built-in compiler. It understands all the freebsd-isms.
