With this patch, /sys/cam/cam_extend* can be deleted. Apply the patch with: cd /sys/cam/scsi; patch -p0 < extend-remove.patch cd /usr/src; make buildkernel ... Please test it and let me know if you have any problems. I have it running on today's -current with 4 disk exerciser processes running against the da device with no problems. However, there are no guarantees that it will not cause data loss, etc. so use with caution on non-important drives. I am especially interested in making sure the tape (sa) support is correct so please test that. http://www.root.org/~nate/extend-remove.patch Thanks, Nate To Unsubscribe: send mail to majordomo@FreeBSD.org with "unsubscribe freebsd-scsi" in the body of the message From owner-freebsd-scsi Fri Jun 21 9:48:46 2002 Delivered-To: freebsd-scsi@freebsd.org Received: from rip.psg.com (rip.psg.com [147.28.0.39]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 5C61B37B407 for ; Fri, 21 Jun 2002 09:48:44 -0700 (PDT) Received: from localhost ([127.0.0.1] helo=rip.psg.com.psg.com) by rip.psg.com with esmtp (Exim 4.05) id 17LRaS-00003p-00 for freebsd-scsi@freebsd.org; Fri, 21 Jun 2002 09:48:40 -0700 From: Randy Bush MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit To: freebsd-scsi@freebsd.org Subject: u160 controller Message-Id: Date: Fri, 21 Jun 2002 09:48:40 -0700 Sender: owner-freebsd-scsi@FreeBSD.ORG Precedence: bulk List-ID: List-Archive: (Web Archive) List-Help: (List Instructions) List-Subscribe: List-Unsubscribe: X-Loop: FreeBSD.org what is this month's recommendation a reasonable (solid, fast, ...) u160 pci controller card? for just one or two fast drives. randy To Unsubscribe: send mail to majordomo@FreeBSD.org with "unsubscribe freebsd-scsi" in the body of the message From owner-freebsd-scsi Fri Jun 21 9:59: 8 2002 Delivered-To: freebsd-scsi@freebsd.org Received: from panzer.kdm.org (panzer.kdm.org [216.160.178.169]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 4689037B410 for ; Fri, 21 Jun 2002 09:59:01 -0700 (PDT) Received: (from ken@localhost) by panzer.kdm.org (8.11.6/8.9.1) id g5LGwwO21661; Fri, 21 Jun 2002 10:58:58 -0600 (MDT) (envelope-from ken) Date: Fri, 21 Jun 2002 10:58:58 -0600 From: "Kenneth D. Adaptec controllers work fine, as do LSI and QLogic controllers, but Adaptec controllers are much easier to find. You can get an Adaptec 19160 (white box, no cables) for $155 from www.emicrox.com. Yes. This is a perenniel problem. The firmware is very large. But in order to make things work reasonably, you really need to often load recent f/w. I've suggested a 3rd floppy before so you could have things like ispfw.ko on it, but basically didn't know enough to be able > > > > > ? > > > > I could use a bit more information than what you have also. And yes, that seems to be all I see under '-v' > but I'll double check. Huh. That's damned odd. See below for more what you *ought* to see. It's a 2200, but the same things should be seen. It *might* be hung up on running an ABOUT FIRMWARE command. Oh- here's another thing. Do you have the BIOS disabled for the QLogic card? If so, turn it *on* (via the Alt-Q menu). That might do the trick. > > > Are you booting w/o any devices connected at all? > > Without devices attached the isp card probes and we continue to > boot.
