You need to do a make world first, in order to recompile gcc. Also, this has been explained in cvs-all@FreeBSD, in reply to the commit that caused this. You should probably read commit logs if you're running -CURRENT. Finally, make -DNO_WERROR is no longer the way to remove -Werror (as you may have noticed since your command line still use the -Werror flag thus causing the build to fail), you have to use make WERROR=. Sorry, dc(4) is not supported yet on sparc64; it needs to be busdmaified for this. There also seem to be a few minor endianess issues. I don't know offhand why the MAC address would be zeroed, possibly another different srom format (endianess issues will cause it to be wrong with the current code, but obviously not to be zeroed). > when i attach the rj45 to the ethernet port the status appears to be "no > carrier". Huh? The status seems to be detected correctly: > dc1: flags=8802 mtu 1500 > ether 00:00:00:00:00:00 > media: Ethernet autoselect (100baseTX ) > status: active Or did you mean the other adapter? In any case, your machine will probably already crash when you assign an interface address to one of the dc's because of the problems mentioned above. - Thomas -- Thomas Moestl http://www.tu-bs.de/~y0015675/ http://people.FreeBSD.org/~tmm/ PGP fingerprint: 1C97 A604 2BD0 E492 51D0 9C0F 1FE6 4F1D 419C 776C To Unsubscribe: send mail to majordomo@FreeBSD.org with "unsubscribe freebsd-sparc" in the body of the message From owner-freebsd-sparc Thu Nov 7 8:31:45 2002 Delivered-To: freebsd-sparc@freebsd.org Received: from mx1.FreeBSD.org (mx1.freebsd.org [216.136.204.125]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id D342D37B401 for ; Thu, 7 Nov 2002 08:31:44 -0800 (PST) Received: from malkavian.org (malkavian.org [206.136.132.23]) by mx1.FreeBSD.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 1C28E43E75 for ; Thu, 7 Nov 2002 08:31:44 -0800 (PST) (envelope-from aard@aard.org) Received: from malkavian.org (aard@localhost [127.0.0.1]) by malkavian.org (8.12.3/8.12.3) with ESMTP id gA7GVXPQ054583 for ; Thu, 7 Nov 2002 11:31:33 -0500 (EST) (envelope-from aard@aard.org) Received: (from aard@localhost) by malkavian.org (8.12.3/8.12.3/Submit) id gA7GVWSN054582 for freebsd-sparc@freebsd.org; Thu, 7 Nov 2002 11:31:32 -0500 (EST) X-Authentication-Warning: malkavian.org: aard set sender to aard@aard.org using -f Date: Thu, 7 Nov 2002 11:31:32 -0500 From: a clever sheep To: freebsd-sparc@freebsd.org Subject: Re: Problem detecting disks on a Ultra 2 Message-ID: <20021107163132.GI88109@malkavian.org> References: <3DC9EA18.6020102@brainlink.com> <20021107113041.GA315@crow.dom2ip.de> Mime-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii Content-Disposition: inline In-Reply-To: <20021107113041.GA315@crow.dom2ip.de> User-Agent: Mutt/1.4i X-PGP-Public-Key: http://aard.org/pubkey.txt X-PGP-Fingerprint: 9769 98DA 0382 1FB7 A061 1227 5B15 C1C9 9664 EC67 Sender: owner-freebsd-sparc@FreeBSD.ORG Precedence: bulk List-ID: List-Archive: (Web Archive) List-Help: (List Instructions) List-Subscribe: List-Unsubscribe: X-Loop: FreeBSD.org On Thu, Nov 07, 2002 at 12:30:41PM +0100, Thomas Moestl wrote: > > This is because the SCSI controller that's used in Ultra 2s is not > supported yet. does anyone know if this is going to be included in the 5.0 release? -- dreams and belief have gone; time, life itself goes on To Unsubscribe: send mail to majordomo@FreeBSD.org with "unsubscribe freebsd-sparc" in the body of the message From owner-freebsd-sparc Thu Nov 7 9:19: 2 2002 Delivered-To: freebsd-sparc@freebsd.org Received: from mx1.FreeBSD.org (mx1.freebsd.org [216.136.204.125]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 5A35A37B404 for ; Thu, 7 Nov 2002 09:19:01 -0800 (PST) Received: from k6.locore.ca (k6.locore.ca [198.96.117.170]) by mx1.FreeBSD.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 9456943E3B for ; Thu, 7 Nov 2002 09:19:00 -0800 (PST) (envelope-from jake@k6.locore.ca) Received: from k6.locore.ca (jake@localhost.locore.ca [127.0.0.1]) by k6.locore.ca (8.12.5/8.12.5) with ESMTP id gA7HY6bd070498; Thu, 7 Nov 2002 12:34:06 -0500 (EST) (envelope-from jake@k6.locore.ca) Received: (from jake@localhost) by k6.locore.ca (8.12.5/8.12.5/Submit) id gA7HY6kx070497; Thu, 7 Nov 2002 12:34:06 -0500 (EST) Date: Thu, 7 Nov 2002 12:34:06 -0500 From: Jake Burkholder To: a clever sheep Cc: freebsd-sparc@FreeBSD.ORG Subject: Re: Problem detecting disks on a Ultra 2 Message-ID: <20021107123406.F22677@locore.ca> References: <3DC9EA18.6020102@brainlink.com> <20021107113041.GA315@crow.dom2ip.de> <20021107163132.GI88109@malkavian.org> Mime-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii Content-Disposition: inline User-Agent: Mutt/1.2.5i In-Reply-To: <20021107163132.GI88109@malkavian.org>; from aard@aard.org on Thu, Nov 07, 2002 at 11:31:32AM -0500 Sender: owner-freebsd-sparc@FreeBSD.ORG Precedence: bulk List-ID: List-Archive: (Web Archive) List-Help: (List Instructions) List-Subscribe: List-Unsubscribe: X-Loop: FreeBSD.org Apparently, On Thu, Nov 07, 2002 at 11:31:32AM -0500, a clever sheep said words to the effect of; > On Thu, Nov 07, 2002 at 12:30:41PM +0100, Thomas Moestl wrote: > > > > This is because the SCSI controller that's used in Ultra 2s is not > > supported yet. > > does anyone know if this is going to be included in the 5.0 release? I was able to boot it with the 20021031 snapshot but that was as far as I got because the SCSI controllers are not supported (see logfile). Too bad, the box had an 48 Gig RAID5 attached and would have been one hell of a package builder. Especially as all four CPUs had been launched. Is there any SBUS SCSI card for a E4500 that is supported by FreeBSD? Otherwise, I will have to look into netbooting it, just for the fun of it. In the meantime, I have manged to install 20021031-SNAP on a mere Netra t 1125 (the 19" Netra server version of the Ultra 60). No problems during install (the auto default of having just 39 Megs of swap on 17G disk is a little small), SMP seems to work as well. The box is currently running its first buildworld. /s/Udo Rebooting with command: boot cdrom Boot device: /sbus@3,0/SUNW,fas@3,8800000/sd@6,0:f File and args: >> FreeBSD/sparc64 boot block Boot path: /sbus@3,0/SUNW,fas@3,8800000/sd@6,0:f Boot loader: /boot/loader Console: OpenFirmware console disk0 is /sbus@3,0/SUNW,fas@3,8800000/sd@6 FreeBSD/sparc64 bootstrap loader, Revision 1.0 (jake@u60.locore.ca, Thu Oct 31 17:06:29 GMT 2002) bootpath="/sbus@3,0/SUNW,fas@3,8800000/sd@6,0:f" loaddev=disk0s0a: Loading /boot/defaults/loader.conf /boot/kernel/kernel data=0x330d08+0x127638 syms=[0x8+0x484c8+0x8+0x38bd5] Hit [Enter] to boot immediately, or any other key for command prompt. To wit: 1. The install documentation is kind of obsolete, now that there's a real, running sysinstall. I think the sequence of instructions is now much closer to what i386, alpha, and pc98 use, which means we can probably use the unified installation document for them now (with suitable customization). 2. The hardware list probably could use some updating too, but this might be a little more useful if we could also cut over to the unified hardware list. Is there any interest in helping me update these things? (I'm not a sparc64 person, BTW.) If so, I'll change the documentation files to use the regular hardware and installation documents and let people go at it. I can help with markup issues, if necessary, but I don't know much about this platform. The current state of release documentation (for all recent releases and both currently-active development branches) can be found at: http://people.freebsd.org/~bmah/relnotes/ Thanks in advance!
