The chipset, a Silicon Image Sil0680 Ultra DMA 133 RAID, is supported (at least under FreeBSD5.0), but I see 2 separate drives, not a Raid 1 volume. Ip allocation xxx.xxx.xxx.2 xxx.xxx.xxx.3 xxx.xxx.xxx.4 xxx.xxx.yyy.aaa ccc.ddd.eee.fff as IP Addresses for the devices. 3 NICS are on one sub net and two NIC's on others. If I need to allocate individual hostnames for each IP address how do configure them. Do I do that in /etc/hosts? Does FreeBSD only recognize a single hostname for a kernel? What do I do about loopback? The hostnames are not within the same domain even when there are on the same subnet. Some guidance appreciated. Then, when you want to add more IP addresses to that (or any other NIC on your box) do: ifconfig deX alias x.x.x.x. netmask 255.255.255.255 don't forget the keyword 'alias' above, when adding IP addresses to any NIC -after- you have already put on the primary address. The netmask of 255.255.255.255 must also be used for addtional IPs on any NIC. Hope that helps. We use the Comtrol RocketPort cards. I've had good luck with both the 16 and 32 port variations. The only problem I've ever had was trying to get two RocketPort cards to work in the same box. (Although I've not tested it, I suspect that the driver that comes with FreeBSD 4.7 might fix this, we are still back at 4.5 on that box.) We especially like that they are rack mountable and come in high densities. I have tried a Promise FastTrak TX2000 with 2 Hot-Swap Trays. I receive an error message that the controller does not support the 'rebuild' feature of 'atacontrol'. So, my question is thus...Can anyone recommend a solid ATA RAID Controller that supports re-mirroring on the fly? Also, any recommendations about hot-swap trays/bays? Any assistance would be Greatly Appreciated! Just to be a pain, I am not subscribed to this list. :-| Could you please reply 'geeks@geekazoid.com'?
