OK, I got a little further today. I'm typing all of this by hand since there is no access to the keyboard on the system once I get it to boot. EFI Boot Manager ver 1.02 [12.38] Please select a boot option Microsoft Windows XP 64-bit Edition Red Hat Linux CD/DVD ROM/Pci(3|1)/Ata(Primary,Master) CD/DVD ROM/Pci(3|1)/Ata(Primary,Master)/CDROM(Entry1) CD/DVD ROM/Pci(3|1)/Ata(Primary,Master)/CDROM(Entry1)/HD(Part1,S Network Boot/Pci(5|0)/Mac(000347A79480) EFI Shell [Builti-in] Boot option maintenance menu Use ^ and v to change option(s), Use Enter to select an option Loading.: CD/DVD ROM/Pci(3|1)/Ata(Primary,Master) Starting: CD/DVD ROM/Pci(3|1)/Ata(Primary,Master) Console: EFI console FreeBSD/ia64 EFI boot, Revision 1.1 (root@mckinley.pm.xcllnt.net, Thu jan 16 20:28:42 GMT 2003) can't load 'kernel' Type '?' for a list of commands, 'help' for more detailed help. OK show LINES=24 console=efi currdev=fs0a: interpret=OK loaddev=fs0a: prompt=${interpret} OK lsdev fs devices: fs0: EFI filesystem fs1: EFI filesystem fs2: EFI filesystem net devices: OK set currdev=fs2a: OK ls / d boot kernel.gz mfsroot.gz d efi OK ls /boot boot devices.hints loader.rc OK more /boot/loader.rc *** FILE /boot/loader.rc BEGIN *** include /boot/device.hints load /kernel load -t mfs_root /mfsroot set module_path="/modules;/dist" echo \007\007 autoboot 10 *** FILE /boot/loader.rc END *** OK include /boot/device.hints OK load /kernel /kernel data=0x7dcda8t0x690a0 / OK load -t mfs_root /mfsroot OK set module_path="/modules;/dist" { I skipped the echo line and used boot instead of autoboot } OK boot The kernel loads and then the sysinstall program runs. At that point the keyboard and mouse no longer work. One interesting thing I saw, it appears the load command is "smart enough" to append a ".gz" to the end of a filename passed to it on it's commandline. thanks for the assistance on this. diana To Unsubscribe: send mail to majordomo@FreeBSD.org with "unsubscribe freebsd-ia64" in the body of the message
