Currently when I add a zone file and make changes to the primary named.conf, I have to login to the secondary machines and add the slave entries to those named.conf files (then the zone files are generated automatically) Does anyone know a good way (without upgrading to Bind 9) to get them all synchronizing automatically from the primary? thanks, andrew. _________________________________________________________________ Get less junk mail with ninemsn Premium. In the last couple of days we have seen a lot of messages like the one below appearing in /var/log/messages: Oct 13 06:14:58 xxxxx ypserv[45883]: access to master.passwd.byname denied -- client 1.2.3.4:3458 not privileged This goes on for a number of minutes, and then fixes itself. Obviously, the problem is that the NIS lookup request is coming from a non-priveleged (> 1024) port, and ypserv won't honor it. What's not so obvious is why/how this is happening. I'm suspecting it's Sendmail, since the frequency of the message somewhat coincides with the rate of incoming mail on this box. But I can't seem to find any clues on the web or usenet confirming this. Has anyone seen this before, or know of a solution? We've been using Maildir with courier-imap on some reasonably large systems with excellent results. Of course one must be sure that the file system(s) involved have sufficient capacity to handle the expected load. Maildir has been very effective at ISPs where customers may not be checking their mail, or otherwise have rather ancient stores. If the ISP's policy states that mail older than N days will be removed, then a simple find can clean out the old mail: find /home/*/Maildir -type f -mtime +$N | xargs rm Bill -- INTERNET: bill@Celestial.COM Bill Campbell; Celestial Software LLC UUCP: camco!bill PO Box 820; 6641 E. If you're converting your mbox files to Maildirs, don't rely on mbox2maildir to handle everything. It converts all the messages fine, but file dates and message status gets lost. There are various solutions to this problem out there, or you can roll your own...sorry, I don't have any pointers off the top of my head, but google goes a long way. :) Other then that, the only issue I have is with pine. (anti-pine zealots may > /dev/null now.:) Once patched to support maildirs, it works ok, but has a few quirks that sometimes cause it to crash. If all of your users read mail remotely via imap or pop3, then /definitly/ make the switch. ...david --- david raistrick drais@atlasta.net http://www.expita.com/nomime.html
