I usually run single partitions and have not had a problem with it not working. However, this maybe due to a previous installation having done the boot sector. I reuse my drives a lot due to frequent setup changes. Take a look at this: http://www.freebsd.org/doc/en_US.ISO8859-1/books/handbook/boot-blocks.html [snip] # fdisk -B -b /boot/boot0 device [/snip] Of course, i usually try to give this kinda stuff a test run before doing it on a hot system. have fun > thanks so far! > > and this also works for the boot secotor where the systems boots of? > > thanks, > arie > > > -----Ursprüngliche Nachricht----- > Von: owner-freebsd-isp@freebsd.org > [mailto:owner-freebsd-isp@freebsd.org]Im Auftrag von Mario Theodoridis > Gesendet: Sonntag, 14. If you look at the website, the last update was in march of 2002, almost 2 years ago.. If you want a "free" RADIUS implementation I would recommend looking at either freeradius.org or openradius.org. I still have an implementation of xtRadius running at work however we are migrating over to the commercial Radiator Radius package. But this problem are very important for example > somebody when enable SMP support system start to reset itself or under high > load crashed ?!!!!! > Ours went down regardless of load - it was very consistent, every 30 minutes. This is the first time that we've had an issue with it. As I said in my post to -stable, we ran it as SMP under 4.8-REL and 4.8-STA perfectly until we upgraded to 4.9 in late November. The GENERIC 4.9-STA kernel worked fine for a couple of weeks without SMP turned on. It was just on Tuesday when we re-built the kernel with SMP support that we had the problems. For now we have gone back to single-processor mode and are operating normally again. > I wonder Does anybody use SMP Support without Problem . Because SMP > is very important things ... > > I wonder too What about HyperThreading ?! > We had "options HTT" defined in the config under 4.8, but under 4.9 you don't have to specify it anymore. So the only changes we made from the GENERIC kernel were "options SMP" and "options APIC_IO" I will (hesitantly, hoping to avoid the inevitable flame war that will follow) admit that the system is a Compaq Proliant 5500R with 4x500MHz Xeons. This is the only compaq we have, and the only multi-processor system we have running FreeBSD, so I can't compare our problems to anything else. I think in general the SMP support in FreeBSD is very good, and very stable. I'm relatively certain that my problem is specific to my hardware (IRQ sharing maybe). I can only pray that the FreeBSD gods have some further troubleshooting steps for me (I haven't checked the -stable list for replies yet...I'll cross my fingers). We have been using dual CPU in all our servers since FreeBSD 3.x, works just fine under any load. Right now we're running 4.9-R Our servers run many WWW services and serve millions of requests a day. Note, there is a lot of flaky hardware out there. You need to stick with what works best under FreeBSD as far as drivers and such. -Simon On Thu, 18 Dec 2003 21:32:38 +0200, Vahric MUHTARYAN wrote: >Hi Everybody , > > > I watching freebsd-stable list I saw that somebody have a problem >with SMP support which they are using 4.9 . Oddly enough, we were just discussing a similar thing yesterday, but decided against it. I am currently using mutt with mh-style directories on my local machine, without difficulties. And if it /does/ cause difficulties, just IMAP to localhost. Mutt and IMAP seem to play nicely together, I've been using it with cyrus for about a year now, with no issues (aside from configuration issues). The hard part will be converting your current mbox-style mailboxes over to maildir-style mailboxes, IMHO. There's an entry that needs to go in the system-wide pine.conf for Maildir, which will propogate to all users, and there is also a fix for your profile, which will make mail look at your Maildir instead and notify you of new mail. http://www.freebsddiary.org/qmail.php#pine The above link is an example configuring Pine on FreeBSD to run with Maildir from qmail, but I'm sure it's the same regardless of server types. -Gary Running Windows is kinda like playing blackjack: User stays on success, reboots on failure On Fri, 19 Dec 2003, Tillman Hodgson wrote: > On Fri, Dec 19, 2003 at 01:32:13PM -0600, Eric Anderson wrote: > > Bill Campbell wrote: > > > > >Number one above will do the trick and is far more efficient than using the > > >``find ...-exec'', although you might want to modify it to only nuke mail > > >over a certain age. We made that same switch a couple of years ago at a customer's with about 500 very active mail accounts. I had to write a perl script to extract mail in U.W. IMAP's proprietary MBX format to Maildir, but that was the only thing at all difficult. I use mutt with Maildir boxes directly, and found much to my surprise that it defaulted to a secure connection to our courier-imap server when I asked for an IMAP connection. Pine should be no problem as it was probably the first MUA to use IMAP, being developed in the same group at the University of Washington where Mark Crispin is the IMAP guru. I wouldn't know about Elm since I haven't used it since switching to mutt many years ago. I would be surprised if it deals with Maildir boxes directly. I can't address sendmail since I have never used it, and probably never will (at least not unless it's under duress). Postfix can deliver to Maildir boxes. Our setup doesn't use the MTA to store mail directly, but we use deliver with a perl module handling the Maildir boxes after scanning and classifying the mail. Deliver is used much the same way as procmail using pipes. Bill -- INTERNET: bill@Celestial.COM Bill Campbell; Celestial Software LLC UUCP: camco!bill PO Box 820; 6641 E. Pine can be made to work with some itchy-scratchy patching. Takes some work. I have a precompiled tree for 4.50 that is patched, though. For elm you'll need to use some sort of wrapper, none of which work particularly well. Mutt supports maildirs natively without issue. > >The hard part will be converting your current mbox-style mailboxes over to > >maildir-style mailboxes, IMHO. Painful, but not to bad. A few people have posted solutions to this over time. Just don't get scared. I did it and it wasn't difficult. Planning is required. All I had to do was: 1. Make my mail server to run in queue_only mode. No deliveries. BTW I run Exim (http://www.exim.org). 2. I changed the config file for Exim to change a transport from doing delivery to mboxes to Maildir. 3. Ran a script to convert all the mboxes that I had into Maildir. The emails were in /var/mail/$user for all users (they were about 7k then). Since the MTA would now deliver mails into /home/$user/Maildir, I simply run a simple "redeliver" command: cd /var/mail for mbox in `ls -1`; do formail -Y -s sendmail \ $mbox@our.domain.tld.com < $mbox; done When that process completed ... 4. Restarted the MTA on "deliver" mode. All mail got redelivered. I didn't care whether they seemed new or not. The important thing is that they were there. I assumed they were new mail. Some users left mail on the server. That was their own problem. Sometimes an admin must have a tough skin, like the armadillo ;) 5. rm -rf /var/mail/* (that is where the mboxes lived) > My problem is, I have pop users, imap users, and elm/mutt/pine users > on the same box. That is not a problem. Their e-mail will be "there", only they may not be able to access it until they change their configs. Mutt users must change their .muttrc. I believe elm will work staright, but not sure. I used pine long ago so I can't comment on it. I use mutt all these days! > Does elm/mutt/pine work ok with maildirs?=20 Definately. > What about sendmail?=20 Sendwhat?? ;-) Please use a sane MTA. If you can't use Exim, use Postfix ;-) I can only talk about Exim for that is what I use. It has no problem at all delivering to Maildir. > What should I be looking out for? I believe a perfect script to migrate your mboxes to $home/Maildir. I have attached the script. If you have the mail located elswhere, you can use this script: #!/usr/local/bin/bash DIRNAME=3D"/var/mail" cd $DIRNAME for user in `ls`; do mv $user $user.mbox maildirmake ~$user/Maildir perfect_maildir.pl ~$user/Maildir < $user.mbox chown -R $user ~$user/Maildir chgrp -R mail ~$user/Maildir chmod 700 ~$user/Maildir find ~$user/Maildir/ -type f | xargs chmod 660 rm -f $user.mbox done NB: Please test this with some test account before you run it for all users. You will need courier-imap. Very easy to get up and running. If you want fancy life, go for Cyrus. I've never tried it because it's rather complicated, but maybe it's the swiss knife of imap servers? -Wash http://www.netmeister.org/news/learn2quote.html -- +=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D= =3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D= =3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D+ |\ _,,,---,,_ | Odhiambo Washington Zzz /,`.-'`' -. ;-;;,_ | Wananchi Online Ltd. www.wananchi.com |,4- ) )-,_. ,\ ( `'-'| Tel: +254 20 313985-9 +254 20 313922 '---''(_/--' `-'\_) | GSM: +254 722 743223 +254 733 744121 +=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D= =3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D= =3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D+ While most peoples' opinions change, the conviction of their correctness never does. --Q0rSlbzrZN6k9QnT-- --//IivP0gvsAy3Can Content-Type: application/pgp-signature Content-Disposition: inline -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: GnuPG v1.2.1 (FreeBSD) iD8DBQE/5B9xn7LIsuxjem8RAq3HAKCRJYL0jJVhPvgAxEuA+FaukWd16gCgg1pu 54yFm9ZU3LXnS8WaNRTSewc= =chD1 -----END PGP SIGNATURE----- --//IivP0gvsAy3Can-- From owner-freebsd-isp@FreeBSD.ORG Sat Dec 20 12:57:12 2003 Return-Path: Delivered-To: freebsd-isp@freebsd.org Received: from mx1.FreeBSD.org (mx1.freebsd.org [216.136.204.125]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 9C1D516A4CE for ; Sat, 20 Dec 2003 12:57:12 -0800 (PST) Received: from smtp-ft4.fr.colt.net (smtp-ft4.fr.colt.net [213.41.78.203]) by mx1.FreeBSD.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id B2A0743D49 for ; Sat, 20 Dec 2003 12:57:10 -0800 (PST) (envelope-from nanard@crystunix.com) Received: from thot (adm.crystunix.com [195.68.88.114]) by smtp-ft4.fr.colt.net with SMTP id hBKIHRu24878; Sat, 20 Dec 2003 19:17:33 +0100 Message-ID: <002f01c3c725$83265270$0201a8c0@thot> From: "nanard" To: "Arie J. Snort detects when there are port scan and Guardian adds the ip attacker to IPF. Snort is in ports tree. Guardian is free on http://www.chaotic.org/guardian/ To works with IPF, i had to change my IPF configuration: At the beginning on my rules, i put this: pass in from any to any keep state head 10 Then i ve my rules which block by default. For instance, #---------------- IN ICMP (30) - tl0 ---------- # block in log proto icmp all head 30 pass in quick proto icmp from any to X.Y.Z.W icmp-type 11 group 30 pass in quick proto icmp from A.B.C.D to X.Y.Z.W group 30 #----------------------------------# idem for OUT, and for IN/TCP, OUT/TCP, etc Then guardian, when it added an ip, it calls a script that i modified to be in group 10: echo "block in log $options on $interface from $source to any group 10" | /sbin/ipf -f - You can say to Guardian the time for a deny ip and the trusted ip. I'm trying to backup a server over ssh, but I don't want to type the passphrase. I've been making the *interchange* of keys between the both machines, but this doesn't seem to work.
