I tried to start of build of java and found weird problem. I installed linux-sun-jdk14 but problem is that every time I start javac computer freezes with Heap problems. I am doing this on 5.1-RELEASE. So I installed jdk1.4.1 (which worked fine), but problem started again. On compiling of j2se/make/tools/pack-unpack I got problems since I used version 1.4.1, and if jdk is not 1.4.2 then we got problems, since it's trying to run just build version of jdk 1.4.2 (which was almost built at this point), but it looks in wrong directory (it looks for it in j2se/build/bsd-586/bin, but it's built in control/build/bsd-586/bin/). I am very bad at fixing of makefiles, so I would be very thankful if someone could look at this (or lend me his built version (1.4.2) for bootstraping). Take care. I already had a native jdk14 with which to bootstrap. Perhaps you're using the linux-sun-jdk14 package for your build? If not, then it may be a difference in -CURRENT. I haven't upgraded to 5.2-BETA because that's horribly unstable on several fronts at the moment. Once it's stabilized, I'll try the build again and let you know if I encounter the same problem. That's quite a hectic bar to entry. It means that folks with no JDK must: 1) Install linux-sun-jdk14. 2) CVS update port to 1.4.1. 3) Install jdk14. 4) CVS update port to 1.4.2 5) Install jdk14. Step 1 will be handled automatically by step 3, but it's still a LOT of downloading and installing. Also, CVSup users can't easily update ports to specific versions. :-( Ciao, Sheldon. Perhaps you're > using the linux-sun-jdk14 package for your build? I have blackdown 1.4.1 and sun 1.4.2 installed. I have not modified anything so it should be using the sun one by default if I'm not reading the Makefile incorrectly. (On 4.9 the sun jdks wouldn't run for me though so I had to fiddle a bit and bootstrap with blackdown 1.4.1, which ended up working fine.) But no, I don't have a previous version of the native JDK. This is the first time I have gotten around to trying to build the native version. Previously I have been too lazy to deal with the SCSL download procedure :) > If not, then it may be a difference in -CURRENT. Okay. FYI, /usr/lib/libstdc++ definitely contains the __gxx_personality_v0 symbol on my machine (strings output), but the Linux compatibility libstdc++ libraries don't. Could it be that somehow the linker is finding the Linux compatibility library instead of the native one? Perhaps that's completely out of the question; I don't know enough about this to judge. The compiler invokation that fails is this (line breaks added for E-Mail formatting): /usr/bin/gcc -Wl,-Bstatic -lstdc++ -Wl,-Bdynamic -o /usr/ports/java/jdk14/work/control/build/bsd-i586/tmp/sun.tools.unpack/obj/unpack /usr/ports/java/jdk14/work/control/build/bsd-i586/tmp/sun.tools.unpack/obj/bytes.o /usr/ports/java/jdk14/work/control/build/bsd-i586/tmp/sun.tools.unpack/obj/bands.o /usr/ports/java/jdk14/work/control/build/bsd-i586/tmp/sun.tools.unpack/obj/coding.o /usr/ports/java/jdk14/work/control/build/bsd-i586/tmp/sun.tools.unpack/obj/unpack.o /usr/ports/java/jdk14/work/control/build/bsd-i586/tmp/sun.tools.unpack/obj/utils.o /usr/ports/java/jdk14/work/control/build/bsd-i586/tmp/sun.tools.unpack/obj/zip.o -- / Peter Schuller, InfiDyne Technologies HB PGP userID: 0xE9758B7D or 'Peter Schuller ' Key retrieval: Send an E-Mail to getpgpkey@scode.org E-Mail: peter.schuller@infidyne.com Web: http://www.scode.org From owner-freebsd-java@FreeBSD.ORG Tue Nov 25 11:08:42 2003 Return-Path: Delivered-To: freebsd-java@freebsd.org Received: from mx1.FreeBSD.org (mx1.freebsd.org [216.136.204.125]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 8509A16A4CE for ; Tue, 25 Nov 2003 11:08:42 -0800 (PST) Received: from sonic.kks.net (sonic.kks.net [213.161.0.18]) by mx1.FreeBSD.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id E524A43FA3 for ; Tue, 25 Nov 2003 11:08:40 -0800 (PST) (envelope-from andy@kksonline.com) Received: from voyager.kksonline.com (cpe1-5-51.cable.triera.net [213.161.5.51]) by sonic.kks.net (Postfix) with ESMTP id BF813211 for ; Tue, 25 Nov 2003 20:08:48 +0100 (CET) Message-Id: <6.0.0.22.2.20031125200236.047b3278@pop3.kks.net> X-Sender: arozman@pop3.kks.net X-Mailer: QUALCOMM Windows Eudora Version 6.0.0.22 Date: Tue, 25 Nov 2003 20:08:32 +0100 To: freebsd-java@FreeBSD.ORG From: Aleksander Rozman - Andy Mime-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset="us-ascii"; format=flowed Subject: Jdk 142 build fails on /j2se/make/tools/pack_unpack X-BeenThere: freebsd-java@freebsd.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.1 Precedence: list List-Id: Porting Java to FreeBSD List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: , X-List-Received-Date: Tue, 25 Nov 2003 19:08:42 -0000 Hi ! It's just a pretty xclipboard. :-) Quite old thread, i don't know if it will help OP or not... I just found out that using javax.swing.JTextArea does not allow me to copy the text (in X; BTW xclip Just Works) but java.awt.TextArea does. Reason seems to be explained quite well here... http://groups.google.com/groups?selm=Wger7.16046%24vq.3236736%40typhoon.ne.mediaone.net - Parv --
