It could speed up PPC buildworld times with a SMP kernel. http://www.technowarehousellc.com/duallinpcica.html Anybody have OEM or actual manufacturer links for this piece of hardware? At $4k it's pricey but if I could run FreeBSD on it, I could see some uses for it instead of having to buy an SSL accelerator/load-balancer. --clark From owner-freebsd-ppc@FreeBSD.ORG Thu Apr 17 23:16:09 2003 Return-Path: Delivered-To: freebsd-ppc@freebsd.org Received: from mx1.FreeBSD.org (mx1.freebsd.org [216.136.204.125]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 5821F37B404 for ; Thu, 17 Apr 2003 23:16:09 -0700 (PDT) Received: from dommail.onthenet.com.au (dommail.OntheNet.com.au [203.13.70.57]) by mx1.FreeBSD.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 5475743FDF for ; Thu, 17 Apr 2003 23:16:08 -0700 (PDT) (envelope-from grehan@freebsd.org) Received: from freebsd.org (CPE-203-45-236-129.qld.bigpond.net.au [203.45.236.129]) by dommail.onthenet.com.au (Mirapoint Messaging Server MOS 3.2.4-GA) with ESMTP id AAX07231 (AUTH peterg@ptree32.com.au); Fri, 18 Apr 2003 16:16:03 +1000 (EST) Sender: grehan@dommail.onthenet.com.au Message-ID: <3E9F9834.16884F@freebsd.org> Date: Fri, 18 Apr 2003 16:16:20 +1000 From: Peter Grehan X-Mailer: Mozilla 4.79 [en] (X11; U; Linux 2.2.14-12 i686) X-Accept-Language: en MIME-Version: 1.0 To: clark shishido References: <20030418040413.GA93714@ruminary.org> Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit cc: freebsd-ppc@freebsd.org Subject: Re: ppc hardware X-BeenThere: freebsd-ppc@freebsd.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.1 Precedence: list List-Id: Porting FreeBSD to the PowerPC List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: , X-List-Received-Date: Fri, 18 Apr 2003 06:16:09 -0000 Hi Clark, > http://www.technowarehousellc.com/duallinpcica.html > > Anybody have OEM or actual manufacturer links for this > piece of hardware? It would take a bit of work to get FreeBSD to run on this: firstly, the port's reliance on OpenFirmware would have to be divorced, /boot/loader ported to PPCBoot/U-Boot, and a driver written for the Galileo 64260 system controller and built-in peripherals (http://www.marvell.com/products/communication/discovery/GT-64260A.jsp). At least the first two of these tasks are required for many embedded PPC boards, one of which I own, so it will be done at some point. later, Peter.
